For a fabulous blow-dry use a round bristle brush; your hair will maintain movement and it won’t be pin straight.
Rocking extensions? Brush your hair twice a day, putting pressure at the scalp to keep the extensions separated and all the hair around them nice and brushed out.
For movie star waves prep your hair with hairspray, set in hot rollers and allow them to cool while you do your makeup; remove and gently brush or finger-comb.
Retro hair is hot! Get pin-up pretty without looking outdated by opting for a sexy set of Veronica Lake-like waves.
Accessories are a surefire way to add instant flair to your hair.
Looking for a subtle style switch. Consider highlight and lowlight options, which can help add dimension to your overall look.
If your hair is dirty at the roots, coat the bottom half of your hair with conditioner, then put shampoo just at your roots to clean your scalp where your need volume.
No matter what style you choose, whether it be a sporty bob or glam length, you want a haircut that looks modern and has movement.
Consider your favorite wardrobe choices when selecting a long-term shade—after all, it’s a lot easier to change your mane shade than the entire content of your closet.
While being on top of every hair trend can keep your look fresh, another approach is to find a signature look that suits you—and only you.
Besides your personality and style preferences, the best look for you comes by taking an honest look at your face shape. Consult with your hairstylist to score a great style.
The perfect updo often requires a few more strands than you’re naturally sporting, so don’t be afraid to use hair pieces and add on.
If you’re using hot rollers, dry the hair completely upside down to set strands with height. Then set on rollers.
When choosing an at-home haircolor, do your research. You want to look for a color line that has the lowest amount of ammonia.
Choose silicone-based products. When silicone is heated up, it’s pliable, but when it’s dry, it’s flexible, so you don’t receive breakage.
When washing color-treated hair remember to use cooler water. Hot water opens the hair cuticle, so you’re washing that color down the drain.
Preserve your haircolor by shampooing every other day, and on alternate days run a conditioner through and rinse it out.
If you’re getting a salon treatment, don’t be afraid to ask your stylist about their product choice—it’s your hair, so you have the right to ask!
Prep hair before coloring to be as healthy as possible—the more moisturized, the better it’s going to hold the color.
Avoid using alcohol-based products because they open up the cuticle and dry out the hair.
The one great thing about the winter is the absence of heat and humidity, so women can buy more time between shampoos. Try washing every other day.
Static got you down? It’s caused by an absence of moisture, so really good conditioning treatments will contribute to controlling static.
Treat your hair like it’s an accessory. Ideally, you should switch up your style every two seasons: spring/summer and autumn/winter.
When you see looks you like in a magazine such as Sophisticate’s, rip them out and toss them in your purse. That way you’re prepared for your salon visit.
The key element in sporting gorgeous, Rapunzel-like lengths is keeping them strong and healthy.
Spruce up your style by adding bangs, fringe or elongated layers to accent and show off your fab features.
A good way to avoid a color whoops is by trying on a darker shade in semi-permanent rather than permanent formulas.
Layers are the number one way to achieve body and texture in the hair.
