Sophisticate’s Blog:                 Step-by-Step Glamour

Get ready for your closeup with a chic updo that’s perfect any special occasion! Are you ready to be the belle of the ball? Gkhair International Creative Director, Misha Belfer, gives Sophisticate’s all the styling details on how to recreate this gorgeous, old Hollywood glamour-inspired style…

1

Step One:
What’s great about this look is that it does not require any preparation and can be done on straight or curled hair!

2

Step Two:
Create an offset, Mohawlk-inspired section (staying above the occipital bone).

3

Step Three:
Secure the section (section one) with a hair band. Offset to one side, create a sleek, smooth surface using Gkhair Strong Hold Hairspray.

4

Step Four:
Section off and secure 1/4 of the ponytail, then backcomb tresses to create volume and texture in the rest of the ponytail.

5

Step Five:
Release the secure section and create a smooth surface on top of the textured part of the ponytail.

6

Step Six:
Flip all of the hair in the ponytail forward and secure with a hair band that’s folded in half and secured on either side with bobby pins.

7

Step Seven:
Flip section one tresses back in their original position and secure and tuck the ends using hair pins while forming the shape.

8

Step Eight:
Using the Gkhair 4 in 1 Curling Iron, curl hair in the bang area (section two) in small sections—all in the same direction.

9

Step Nine:
Comb to your artistic desire, retaining the gorgeous finger waves.

For brightly colored strands or pastel tips, use soft chalk pastels from an art store. Twist each strand as you apply the chalk.

THE FAUX BOB

Celebrity Hairstylist Frank Barbosa, who has worked on movies with stars like Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, and Sarah Jessica Parker, shares his tips for creating the latest hair trend, tucking to get a faux bob.

To achieve, hair must have some length (at least hitting your shoulders). To begin, have your part, texture choice or fringe already in place. Use a great working hair spray like IT&LY Pure Definition. For straight hair; opt for a paddle brush to mold a smoother, sleeker tuck. For waves, use your fingers to arrange curls in place so you don’t disturb the texture. Loosely gather the bottom portion of your hair and tuck under into a roll; secure with bobby pins.

Once tucked, work the style with your fingers to fan out the sides. Apply a headband or for added volume and tendrils, use the tail end of your comb to lift or pull out shorter pieces.

We’re loving Kate Beckinsale’s version…

When putting your hair into a half-up, half-down style, use your eyebrows as a guide to make sure you get the proportions right.

Only blow-dry small sections of your hair at one time. Blow-drying hair sections more than one inch thick doesn’t allow heat to pass through.
