With inspiration taken from the synthpop musical genre, retro fusion visual artists and art deco architecture and more, this collection from the Alan Keville Artistic Team showcases unique and edgy snips that are as stunning as they are unique.

ruby↑ Ruby Shimmer
Light-reflecting sleek strands fall from the crown into a blunt-cut asymmetrical snip that features mid-length fringe and angled edges.

wispy↑ Wispy Wonder
Gorgeous golden and magenta hues intertwine in this standout bob as layered tresses flow effortlessly forward into fringe that gently grazes the eye.

azure↑ Azure Allure
There’s nothing sexier than an ultra-sleek style! Ebony, blunt-cut lengths fall into a graduated halo silhouette while a pop of blue highlights in the bang area adds fierce flavor.

Short Chic

Everywhere you look celebrities are going under the shears and the results are super chic, wearable and versatile—just like Lily Collins, pictured below. NYC hairstylist and salon owner, Nunzio Saviano, offers his advice on how to chop-chop one’s way to a sultry new cut. “I really love Kristen Stewart and Lily Collins’ new cuts because the look is all about balance. It’s not too short, not too long and has just the right about of texture. To make sure you don’t get a pixie, ask your stylist to make sure hair falls at the nape of the neck and leave texture at the ends. This is accomplished with long, precise layers.” To style the look at home… “Use a one inch barrel curling iron to create a natural looking wave. Then break up the pieces and spray with a dry shampoo for definition and separation. Add pomade or texture paste to the ends for a perfectly messy, textured effect.”

BEST BROWS EVER!

wink

Step away from the tweezers! Why? Because bold brows are hotter than ever right now! Celebrities like Cara Delevingne, Camilla Belle, Lily Collins and Katy Perry show that thicker, fuller, more natural-looking brows are not only gorgeous—they’re iconic! To help you achieve carefully shaped, bold brows, Sophisticate’s enlisted the help of Umbreen Sheikh, founder of Wink Brow Bar in NYC (pictured above). Here, she gives her best brow tips and tricks…

Start Off With A Guideline: I recommend going to a brow specialist in your area or your favorite cosmetics counter to mark up your official brow lines. They will help to measure the shape of your natural brow, which will then act as your dotted line to maintaining the shape.

Put The Tweezers Down: Once the shape is complete, follow the guidelines to fill in brows and extend the natural lines. Be mindful to those “stray” hairs that fall within the dotted lines because yes, it may look like a “stray,” but if it’s within the natural lines, it belongs there.

Create A Shadow: Create a shadow behind the hairs by using a brow powder to create the appearance of thick and bold brows. Brow powders are easiest for beginners because you can build up the color, versus drawing it on. Leave the brow pencil to the professional because harsh filling in can age you dramatically.

Finish With A Brow Wax: Consider this “hairspray” for your brows to keep them in place all day long. A brow wax helps hold down hairs and push them closer to the skin, resulting in the appearance of thicker, fuller brows.

SWIMMINGLY GOOD HAIR

curlTIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin created a gorgeous look for the SUBOO Swim 2015 collection runway show. Here are the details of how you can recreate it at home!

1. Work the Catwalk by TIGI Bodifying Spray through towel-dried hair from root to tip; blow-dry using a round brush to smooth the cuticle

2. Using a medium size tong, create loose haphazard curls/waves throughout the head.

side close

3. Create three, 3-strand braids (a large braid on top of head, two smaller braids at the side), taking care to create a bit of lift at the hairline on top. Secure all braids together with pins at the curvature of the back of the head.

4. Use fingers to loosen and texturize the braids and hair at the nape of the neck to achieve the desired “undone” look.

5. Finish by setting the entire look with Catwalk TIGI Work It Hairspray.

Perfect for that spent-the-day-at-the-beach look!

She Said…Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley is having an amazing year—and it’s not even over yet! She showed us how strong girl power is in her starring role in the blockbuster film Divergent. The actress also had us reaching for tissues in The Fault In Our Stars, where she sported a pixie cut that has made her Hollywood’s latest “it” girl. Is she getting used to short and sweet hairstyle? We think so!

“I look at pictures of me with long hair and I think, who is that person?”
