Out And About

out and about

Got someplace special to be? Here are two great looks from the style pros at Saint Algue salon in France. First up: A simple pony transforms into something magical with pumped-up volume at the crown, sideswept bangs and face-framing tendrils. And then there’s the classic chignon, twisted and pinned at the nape of the neck after a simple side part and smooth (but not flat!) crown maneuvers. We can’t decide which we like best…we’ll have to come up with two events so we can wear them both!

Allow your hair to air dry whenever possible. The heat from blow-dryers can be damaging as it is combined with a strong blast of air.

Bad Mom–Great Style!

WESTWOOD, CA - JULY 26: Actress Mila Kunis attends the Premiere ff STX Entertainment's "Bad Moms" at Mann Village Theatre on July 26, 2016 in Westwood, California. (Photo by Allen Berezovsky/Getty Imagesfor Fashion Media)

Mila Kunis wow’ed on the red carpet of her Bad Moms movie premiere earlier this week, with a simple but tres chic hairstyle, crafted by hairstylist Renato Campora using products from the new Matrix StyleLink Mineral line. Here’s the step-by-step from Campora….

bad mom great style 21. First, I began with Mila’s hair wet, and applied Matrix Style Link Minerals Airy Builder Mousse from root to tip.

2. Next, I blow-dried her hair, then flat-ironed it straight.

3. When the hair was completely dry, I took the front section and pulled it back into a ponytail, brushing the hair in a backward motion to create a slicked-back, smooth look; I took a section of hair and twisted it around the pony, securing it with a bobby pin to maintain the knot.

5. To finish, I sprayed Mila’s hair with Matrix Total Results High Amplifying Hairspray, and added a few drops of Matrix Style Link Mineral Booster to help her look last through the night.

Wave Hello To Jessica Simpson

Out and about at the Los Angeles premiere of Gleason, Jessica Simpson (shown above with her hubby) once again proves why we have serious mane envy when it comes to her Boho, chic waves. Hairstylist Giannandrea, International Creative Director for Macadamia Professional, styled up the star’s mane and is sharing how you can duplicate the look…

>>Apply a volume-building mousse (try Macadamia Professional Foaming Volumizer) to damp hair to help create a voluminous base, then blow-dry locks with a large brush. To blow-dry, divide hair into six large sections and do not stretch the hair while drying; just softly dry with the brush to retain as much volume as possible.

>>Create a middle part and wrap small sections of hair around a 1” curling iron to create waves. Once all the hair is in waves, use a flat iron to gently flatten the waves, especially toward the ends, keeping the softness and volume up top. There should be no roundness at the ends. This process is most important as it gives the waves more of a “Boho” appeal.

>>Spray on a bit of dry shampoo at the crown for a dry-texture finish  Macadamia Professional Style Extend Dry Shampoo is a good one), following by a bit of oil mist applied from mid-lengths to ends to create definition and shine. Finalize the look with a finishing spray to add even more light volume and texture.

When washing, don’t pile your hair on top and scrub as this will create knots. Work the shampoo gently down to the ends and rinse.

We may have just found the perfect summer bob, thanks to Lucy Hale, who shared her cuter-than-cute snip on Instagram. If you think the bob trend may be fading, then you probably need to think again. While Lucy has been rocking her snip for awhile, Cara Delevigne just cut off inches to create her own bob. It’s on, ladies. Time to make that salon appointment…

Squad Color Goals

squad color goals

The much-talked about Suicide Squad movie (opening August 5) features a cast of colorful characters—and that includes their hair. Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, sports a platinum hue with dip-dyed blue and pink ends, while Jared Leto, who plays Joker, shows off a very green mane. So it’s no wonder that Splat created a collection of 11 hair hues in honor of the movie.

Pink Fetish and Blue Envy are the colors to grab if you’re looking to duplicate Harley Quinn’s look, while Scream Green will get you the Joker’s green. Other shades include Purple Desire, Lusty Lavender, Crimson Obsession, Bleach, Luscious Raspberry, Berry Blast, Aqua Rush and Pink & Blue. And just for fun, each color comes in a different box featuring the movie’s characters, and includes a special-edition Suicide Squad comic book.

The Splat Suicide Squad haircolors are available at Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, CVS Rite Aid and Hot Topic. But hurry! The company only printed 350,000 of the special edition boxes and they’re already selling out like crazy!

Olivia’s Waves

olivia's waves

Olivia Munn looked summer perfect on the ESPY Awards red carpet with easy volume and beachy waves. Her tresses were styled by hairdresser Chris Appleton, who used products from the Matrix StyleLink Mineral line. “The inspiration for this look was a gritty yet effortless look—all about texture,” shares Appleton. “Her dress was a beautiful white gown and we wanted to do a look that complimented it. Olivia’s hair is very soft, so we needed to make sure that we added a lot of the right products to make her hair look as textured as possible.”

Here’s the step-by-step, as explained by Appleton…

First, we started with wet hair and applied  Matrix StyleLink Mineral Rough Me Up Salt Infused Spray throughout her hair and through the roots. Then we blow-dried her hair upside down all the way through the root until completely dry. There was a lot of focus on the roots of her hair to ensure that we were getting volume throughout the look.

When the hair was completely dry, I applied Matrix StyleLink Mineral Airy Builder Mousse throughout Olivia’s hair to prep it for curling, before back-combing her hair at the roots for more texture.

Section by section, I began curling the hair. I sprayed each section with Matrix StyleLink Mineral Playback Dry Shampoo, using it as a texturizer. I wanted the look to have a variation of different sized waves, so I used a 2” curling iron at the root of her hair, but then switched to a 3” curling iron at the end of her hair in order to create a more natural, effortless look.

To finish off the look, I cocktailed the Matrix StyleLink Mineral Playback Dry Shampoo with Matrix StyleLink Mineral Booster, mixing the two together in the palms of my hands. Then, I ran my hands through Olivia’s hair to put the final texture touches on the look!

Everyone Is Having Fun

Do blondes have more fun? Gina Rodriguez is testing the waters, showing off a brand-new golden-blonde mane. But the naturally dark-haired actress isn’t going to be quick to judge the fun factor, as she pointed out on Instagram when she posted the new tress shade, “I mean I did have fun as a brunette…” Only time will tell!

Styling Justin

LOS ANGELES, CA - JULY 13: Recording artist Justin Timberlake speaks onstage during the 2016 ESPYS at Microsoft Theater on July 13, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

He’s definitely brought sexy back! Justin Timberlake was well-groomed and gorgeous at the ESPY Awards, thanks in part to hairstylist Christine Nelli, who used products from the Matrix StyleLink Mineral line to help achieve his fab look for the event.

Here’s the step-by-step from Nelli herself…

I started by spraying Justin’s wet hair with Matrix StyleLink Mineral Rough Me Up Sea Salt Spray to prep his hair with just enough texture to properly style it. Then, I used a comb to part his hair to the side and create a slick side part.

Next, I used a flat brush to blow-dry the hair over, making sure that the look stayed sleek. Then I mixed the Matrix StyleLink Mineral Grip Definer with a couple of drops of Matrix StyleLink Mineral Booster for some lightweight texture for the look.

After the hair was completely dry, I ran through his hair with my hands to shape it. For a final touch, I sprayed the hair with Matrix StyleLink Mineral Playback Dry Shampoo to make sure that his hair looked fresh but had enough texture to stay put all night long!

the muse collection

The Must Collection from Schwarzkopf Professional is inspired by the British fashion industry leaders. This look, from the collection, represents fashion designer Stella McCartney and the feminine feel of her clothing line. “It was important that this look have an ethereal and whimsical vibe, contrasting with the bolder looks in the collections,” explained En Route Hair & Beauty’s Lauren Tudor, who designed the style. Stunning!

Pixie Perfect

Curls and waves pair perfectly with this cute, cropped pixie snip, created by the style pros at jcp salon. The longer layers on top allow curls to take shape and bring out the volume. Boy Blonde

It appears as if the female celebrity population doesn’t have a lock on lightening up for summer! Miles Teller, the normally dark-brunette actor you know and love from Whiplash, Divergent and a whole bunch of other flicks, has gone completely blonde, including his eyebrows. It’s most likely for a film role, but still—it’s nice to see the boys of summer experiments with the power of bleach!
