ONE Great Look: Misty Watercolor

Amber Moyer, Miss

Hair by Amber Moyer, MS

Like a Monet water lily painting, this artistic mane is a beautiful garden of soft color. Aqua, dusty magenta, deep purply-blue, a hint of yellow and a subdued lime green all work together to create a gorgeous masterpiece. Bravo!

flood coverRoughly 110,000 homes; 281,000 people and 7,300 businesses were in the wake of the floods that affected Louisiana. In response to the wide-spread devastation caused, The Salon and Spa Relief Fund is on the scene, collecting donations and offering grants to help salon and spa owners and their employees who were affected to help rebuild their lives and their businesses.

“We started The Salon and Spa Relief Fund because of our first hand experience in Katrina,” said Debra Neill Baker, Chairman of Neill Corporation and one of the directors of The Salon and Spa Relief Fund. “So many people we cared about were affected and we wanted to do something. Once you have been in a disaster, you have a heightened awareness of its impact. We wanted to help. And we found that many other people felt the same way. This fund has become a centralized place for our industry to help those who need it.” Since its inception in 2005, The Salon and Spa Relief Fund has awarded 43 grants totaling almost $184,000 to those affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike and the Nashville floods of 2009.

If you or someone you know was affected by the Louisiana floods, or the tornadoes recently affecting the midwest, a grant application is available online. You an also make a donation online. The place for both is: www.salonandsparelieffund.org

5 Steps To Ariana!

NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 28: Ariana Grande attends the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards at Madison Square Garden on August 28, 2016 in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

Did you catch the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards last night? Ariana Grande and her trademark ponytail were there in fabulous, full-volume force, complete with new-this-summer fringe. The singer’s stylist, Aaron Light did the ‘do, and you can, too….

1. Start by applying a small amount of Matrix Style Link Blow Out Big Queen Cream to damp hair. Blow-dry bangs with a 1-inch round brush, then place them in a 1-inch roller to cool and keep the shape. TIP: If you don’t have rollers, wrap the hair around your finger and secure with a clip or bobby pin. Blow-dry the rest of the hair so it is silky and smooth.

2. Brush hair into a high pony tail on the top of the head and secure with a hook bungee. This will create a tight pony tail with no slippage. For thick hair, use two bungees.

3. Spread a dime-size amount of Matrix Style Link Shape Switcher onto fingertips and brush hands backward from the hairline to the pony tail to smooth any bumps and secure flyaways. Repeat with a barbering brush for extra smoothness.

4. Wrap a small piece of hair around the bungee and secure with a bobby pin. Spray pony tail with Matrix Style Link Mineral Rough Me Up Salt Infused Spray for texture. Remove roller from bangs and smooth as desired

5. To finish the look, take a few random pieces from the pony tail and using a crimping iron, crimp the hair from top to bottom. TIP: Dust finger tips with Matrix Style Link Mineral Booster Texture Booster and lightly run through sections before crimping for extra texture and volume.

5 Steps To Celebrity Hair

5 steps to celebrity hair 1

Matrix Artistic Director and Celebrity Stylist Nick Stenson styled actress Kate Mara this past week for her appearance on the Late Late Show with James Corden. Here are the five steps that can help you recreate Kate’s fresh and fun tress look…

5 steps to celebrity hair 2STEP ONE
Apply Matrix Style Link Blow Out Big Queen evenly through damp hair. When blow-drying, use a round brush vertically to add texture to the hair.

STEP TWO
Once dry, apply a small amount of Matrix Style Link Texture Builder the into hair for grip. On the right side, starting at the hair line, create a braid to the curve of the head; pin the tail of the braid under the nape of the head.

STEP THREE
Repeat the braid on the opposite side, leaving small pieces of hair out between the braid.

STEP FOUR
Take a 1-inch Marcel iron and wrap random sections of hair around it, leaving the ends loose. Once the hair is curled, apply a small amount of Matrix Style Link Mineral Booster to loosen curls and add texture.

STEP FIVE
Finish by tucking the hair behind the ear and spray with Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Spray.
