Love Your Curls

Got curls? Love them even more with the right cut, courtesy of the style pros at jcp salon. Long layers throughout the top sections and around the face allow ringlets to form a soft, flattering halo. The key: working with curls, instead of trying to stretch them when cutting and styling. #jcpsalon #InStyleAtJcp

5 Steps To Priyanka Chopra’s Glam Pony

Actress Priyanka Chopra stunned at the 2016 Emmy Awards in L.A., donning a custom-made red designer gown with a chic pony to match. Her go-to hairstylist Castillo used MOP haircare and ghd products to create a glamourous and sophisticated sleek ponytail.

“Since the dress was custom-made, I really wanted the hair to be cohesive with the vision of the designer—sleek and chic,” says Castillo.

STEP ONE: After washing with a moisturizing shampoo, use a detangler. “I combed through her hair to untangle and minimize frizz. I added a leave-in conditioner from mid-shaft to the end to help coat any damage or dryness, then I added a bit of the MOP lemongrass lift root spray to help with setting the hair.”

LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 18: Actress Priyanka Chopra attends the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 18, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Steve Granitz/WireImage)STEP TWO: “I rough blow-dried the hair using the ghd Air Hairdryer until it was about 80 percent dry, then brushed through it with a paddle brush to take out any tangles.”

STEP THREE: “With a tail comb, I created the side part, then section-by-section, I flat brush blow-dried the hair straight. I then went back over each section with a flat iron from mid hair shaft to end.”

STEP FOUR: “Once I was done straightening, I took a dollop-sized amount of MOP orange peel molding cream and coated root to mid hair shaft. I brushed it through with a finishing brush and then with a twisting motion, I twisted it behind her ear and down the back of her neck.”

STEP FIVE: “I repeated this same technique, minus the twist, and gathered her hair into a low ponytail, secured it with a hair bungee and wrapped a section of hair around the bungee to conceal it.” For final touches, finish with hair spray around the hair line and ponytail.

M·A·C Cosmetics created stunning eye looks for the Jeremy Scott runway show last week during New York Fashion Week. Here are the three musts for creating those gorgeous aqua eyes…

1. Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline — Used to rim the eyes to richly define.

2. M·A·C Pigment in Teal — Applied and blended over the eye pencil.

3. M·A·C Work It Out In Extreme Dimension Lash in Hold For 10 (available in Spring 2017) — Applied through the upper lashes to lift and intensify the yes.

5 Steps To Awesome Braids

For the Spring/Summer 2017 Jeans for Refugees collection from artist Johny Dar, runway stylist and NAHA Master Stylist of the Year Award-winner Ammon Carver, Global Creative Director for L’ANZA Healing Haircare, created intricate braided looks with strong textural definition. “I was inspired by the rich colors and beautifully intricate textures of Johny’s amazing painted jeans and dresses,” said Carver. “I knew as soon as I looked at the clothes that it had to be a braided look. I also wanted the hair to combine his inspiration from diverse cultures and nature since the scope of his artistry and his work is so expansive.”

Carver created sophisticated, detailed braided looks with French rope braids of diverse sizes that graduated in width from top to ends. Micro ‘spacer’ braids were placed between each rope braid to give the illusion of added space to amplify dimension. The braids were joined at the nape of the neck, and tied together to flow down over loose, deconstructed lengths of hair beneath.

How To Create The Look:

STEP ONE Apply L’ANZA Healing Style Molding Paste for control, hold and definition.

STEP TWO Create French roll braids. Start at the top, working down the sides to follow the curve of the head, widening the braid and stopping at the back of the crown. To create the braid, take a small section of hair and separate it into three parts; twist, then roll the first two parts counterclockwise, then integrate the third part into the braid in the same direction.

STEP THREE Create micro-braids. As a “spacer” between French roll braids, and to add more detail, create small, one-sided micro-braids alongside each larger braid. When you’re done, you should have about six to eight total braids (French roll and micro).

STEP FOUR Bring ends of all braids to the center of the nape at the back of the neck and secure together.

STEP FIVE Loosely curl remaining braid-free hair with a 1½-inch curling iron, brush through, then separate strands for smooth, loose, deconstructed texture to contrast braids. Finish with a light spray of firm-hold L’ANZA Keratin Healing Oil Lustrous Finishing Spray to hold the look in place.

3 Steps To Fashion Week Hair

NEW YORK, NY-September 12:Ireland Baldwin final hair/makeup for Matrix at London in New York. September 12, 2016. Credit:Roger Wong

Celebrity Stylist Scott Cunha styled Ireland Baldwin for the Sherri Hill runway show at New York Fashion Week. “Ireland just cut her hair and I love it!” shares Cunha. “We wanted to accentuate her new look and go with an effortless, undone rocker vibe.” Here’s how it’s done…

Apply Matrix Style Link Blowout Big Queen to towel-dried hair and blow it out from roots to ends.

Once dried, create a side part and use a 1-inch curling iron on 1-inch vertical sections to curl hair away from the face. Spray Matrix Style Link Mineral Rough Me Up Salt Infused Spray onto hands and scrunch the ends to separate the waves.

To get a more undone look, use Matrix Style Link Shape Switcher Molding Paste to create additional texture and separation. Spray Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray onto a toothbrush and brush over the part to make it a little more defined. You can also use it to smooth flyaways!
