7 Must-Knows About Your Split Ends

Split ends—everybody gets them. Nobody wants them. Eufora International’s Creative Director and Celebrity Hairstylist Philip Carreon shares his go-to guide for how to beat split ends…

1. Yes, trims do help!
“It is true that once a hair splits on the ends the best cure is to trim the hair just above the split end. The split can move up the shaft making the hair weak and vulnerable if you don’t get to it in time. The splits can progress all the way up your entire hair length.”

Philip Carreon

2. No, trims don’t have to mean lost length.
“There are many ways to trim without taking off length. Don’t hold on to dead length that is only going to get worse. Remember; giving wellness to a dead man doesn’t bring him life back! Trimming smaller bits more often will keep your hair growing and healthy. It only takes a few weeks past your 5-6 week trim to start more splitting.”

3. Strengthen carefully.
“There are important things to know about strengthening your hair. Too much strengthening without a good balance of moisture can work against your goal to reduce split ends. Preventing splits in the first place is a must!”

4. Start your care at home.
“Preventing split ends is your best recourse, so make sure you are using products that take care of your hair in between visits to the salon. Use a leave-in repair treatment, like Eufora’s Beautifying Elixirs Leave-in Repair Treatment, and spray directly on freshly washed ends before any other styling product. Use a hair masque once a week until you see improvement. Look for masks that contain vegetable proteins and amino acids that will boost the strength of your hair immediately, or a host of wellness essential oils loaded with antioxidants that will moisturize and soften the hair (try Eufora’s Beautifying Elixirs Moisture Masque). Remember–the longer you leave it in, the better!”

5. Use more TLC if you color your hair.
“Hand-painted bleach and high-lift color is so popular, and can leave the ends of the hair the lightest and the most damaged. Keep in mind, the ends of our hair are already the oldest hair and the most fragile.”

6. Use the right products.
“The most effective results come with a complete regime of a quality shampoo and conditioner, whether using for limp/flat hair or normal/coarse textures. Both will gently cleanse and rejuvenate the hair giving you a perfect balance of strength and moisture. I always recommend using a salon professional brand, like Eufora, because it comes with a recommendation from your stylist who can choose the shampoo and conditioner that is best for your hair type.”

7. You can disguise split ends.
“As a cosmetic styling fix, you can use a small amount of styling glaze to calm over fried hair and help to seal down static and flyaway ends. Work a small amount through towel-dried, clean hair prior to styling. After styling, from a distance, spray a shine mist to finished hair to add shine and reduce flyaway ends.”

Bachelor Hair!

Forget all the roses–it was all about the hair on The Bachelor (okay, the roses, too!). Nick Viall wore his mane in a dreamy, run-your-fingers-through-it way that we kinda want our guy to try. The secret to his hair look, as shown above? Viviscal! Celebrity hairstylist Juanita Lyon worked with Nick for his People magazine photo shoot, and included Viviscal Man Conceal and Densify Volumizing Fibers to add thickness and create that luscious vibe. Swoon!

Green Spirit

Sometimes we just want a simply beautiful hairstyle like this one created by Franc from our friends at Germany’s Braun der Friseur. We love the honey-blonde haircolor tones emboldened by a center-part and long hair that cascades into sensuous, endless waves.

Hair Loss Help!

As the British would say, Care for a cuppa? Green tea is not only a great way to help detoxify your body, it contains antioxidants that promote hair growth, says the hair pros at Viviscal. It can also help play a role in stopping testosterone from turning into DHT, the hormone behind hair loss.

For more great tips about helping prevent hair loss (thanks to the pros at Viviscal), turn to the fab feature article in our June 2017 issue, on sale now (look for Khloe on the cover!).

One great look: Blue Dip

Hair by Samantha Trammell

Blue is very trending right now, and we are crushing hard on this blonde hue with blue-dipped edges. The highlights and lowlights give the blue a multi-shaded finish that we just can’t get enough of. And we can only imagine how beautiful the grow-out will be, when the bolder pieces turn a soft, baby blue…

#HairGoals

Can Demi Lovato get any more gorgeous?! Loving the beachy waves and the shorter hair (extensions are gone–temporarily?), and her makeup is flawless. And is that a milk chocolate hue peeking out between the dark chocolate strands? Hmmm… maybe we should change that to #ChocolateGoals.

4 BIG UNDONE TEXTURE TIPS

texture tips

Love texture? So do we….but we don’t like it too fake tight. How do you keep it sexy curly? Jesse Linares a Sam Villa ArTeam member gives the following tips!

  1. To ensure complete saturation of any product, apply section-by-section on mane. Try Redken Curvaceous Curl Refiner as a primer.
  2. Diffuse hair in large sections to keep curl in tact. Use high heat and the low air setting and heat each section to approx. 80% dry. PS…A good blow dryer for curly girls is the Sam Villa Light Professional Ionic Blow Dryer.
  3. For sections that need to be redefined or polished, use a small curling iron to recurl and tame frizz.
  4. To finish, blend Redken Rough Paste 12 and a small amount of Redken All Soft Argan-6 Multi-care Oil in hands like a lotion. Break the set by gently inserting hands into hair at the scalp. Squeeze fingers together, then slowly extend the root with tension from the inside out. Release tension towards the ends to keep defined.

Jennifer Lopez’ #1 Biggest Beauty Tip

big beauty tip

When the beautiful Shades of Blue star was asked her favorite beauty tip recently, it didn’t take her longer than a New York minute to respond:

“The number one tip is to always get enough sleep. I can’t stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight. I also definitely think beauty comes from within – you have to have keep your mind, soul, body and spirit in sync. I am a firm believer in meditating, and when you are happy and feel joy and love, you radiate beauty.”

So, ladies…call it a night earlier and see if it works for you! P.S. Don’t forget to watch Shades of Blue tonight! Great show!

How Often Do You Wash Your Hair?

Daily? Every other day? Once a week? Ever wonder how often you really need to wash your hair? According to the mane experts at Viviscal, the general rule of thumb is: the thicker your hair, the less frequently you need to wash it.

For the average person, 2-3 days between washes is just fine. There is a small percentage of women who need to wash their hair daily, those with very fine hair, an oily scalp or women who live in very humid areas. But in the end, say the Viviscal pros, you should go with your gut. “If your hair feels like it needs a wash, give it a wash. You don’t need to stick to a strict schedule. Just understand how your hair reacts to weather, physical activity, hair products and anything else that it might encounter.”

(Psst! A good shampoo to use when you do wash? Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo. Chock full of good stuff to help with healthy hair!)
