5 Steps To Hailee’s Waves

LAS VEGAS, NV - MAY 21: Singer Hailee Steinfeld attends the 2017 Billboard Music Awards at T-Mobile Arena on May 21, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic)

Hailee Steinfeld nailed the magenta carpet in a bold & edgy look at the Billboard Music Awards. Beyond the metallic and black gown, her longer-than-long hair looked amazing, thanks to hairstylist Gregory Russell. “Hailee’s style was inspired by her sequined David Koma gown,” shares Russell. “I wanted to be sure to give her a modern look with varying textures that would pair perfectly.” Here’s how you can steal the Pitch Perfect star’s style…

  1. Apply a volumizing mousse to damp hair, then apply a heat-protectant.
  2. Blow-dry away from the face and through the ends using a large round brush.
  3. Create a deep side part. Taking 1 inch sections at a time, curl hair (all in the same direction) with a 1.5″ iron, pinning each curl until cool.
  4. Once cooled, brush out curls into waves and apply Matrix Style Link Over Achiever through the ends to add structure and shine.
  5. Apply styling gel through the roots to hold the hair away from the face; use flat hair pins to set. Diffuse-dry the gelled areas for 10 minutes, then remove pins. Spray with hairspray Matrix Style Link Style Fixer for hold.

Reese’s Perfect Pony

reese low ponytail

Spotted! A new hair trend on the red carpet at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards this past weekend: the low ponytail. A few celebs were scene rocking this chic and easy style, including Reese Witherspoon. Here, celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel shares the step-by-step for how he created the glam low pony, and how you can, too…

    • Create a severe side part on towel-dried hair and and apply a frizz-fighter (Abergel used John Frieda Frizz Ease Beyond Smooth Frizz-Immunity Primer), followed by a volumizing mousse.
    • Blow-dry hair with a round brush, then use a 1 ¼” curling iron to curl hair into bouncy, soft curls.
    • With the help of John Frieda Frizz Ease Clearly Defined Holding Gel, pull hair back into a sleek, low side ponytail, securing with an elastic band. To hide the band, wrap a lock of hair from the ponytail around it and secure with a few hairpins.
    • To finish the look, use a paddle brush to smooth out the ponytail and spritz with flexible hold hairspray.

Faith Hill’s Topknot

Did you love Faith Hill’s sexy top knot on the red carpet at the CMA Awards? Using The One byFrederic Fekkai, here’s how stylist Lorenzo Martin created the look…

  • After seeing Faith’s stunning, one shoulder, Armani Privé gown, we decided to go with a messy top knot. I blow-dried Faith’s hair with a large round brush and then sprayed One and Then Some Dry Texturizing Spray throughout her hair, creating a lived-in look.
  • I then took all her hair and tied it into a high pony. I wrapped various pieces of hair in different directions and secured them with hair pins. I finished the look with The One by Frederic Fekkai One To Hold Hairspray to make her hair sexy and tousled for the night!

International Style

spotlight-stealing silhouettes

↑ lush layers

Romance is in the air and you can grab a little bit with this luscious layered snip. Long layers frame the face and waterfall over the shoulders in a easy waves.

↑ face-framing

Is it a bob? Or is it faux? It could be that long lengths are gently gathered into a low bun at the nape, giving the appearance of a soft bob shape. Or it could be a bob cut with ends turned under in easy curves. Either way, pick the version that works with your hair length for a stunning silhouette.

↑ sleek twist

Elegance at its finest! Hair is divided into an upper and a lower section. Top section is sleekly combed back and twisted into a bun. Bottom section is gathered just below the nape and twisted into a figure-eight that meets with the bun for a cohesive look that scream sophistication.

↑ wet look

So popular! Tresses in a classic bob cut are parted on the side and slicked back with gel to just behind the ears, using enough gel for the hair to look “wet.” Ends are left in soft curves and pieced through with just a hint of that gel for a piecey effect.

↑ tousled beauty

Windswept can be a beauty profile as well as a state of mind. A curled bob is teased outward for a finish that screams that you have style beyond anyone’s wildest imagination. And the wind is at your command as you biggest style accessory.

Makeovers

Shoulder-length locks get a fabulous update in cut, color and style. Vibrant gold and amber highlights are added to a darker base, while length is cut short around the ears and back. Layers on top are left longer to help create a pompadour effect with tons of volume and style panache. Hair by Hair Benders Intl., Chattanooga, TN.

A red-hued bob has bangs snipped in across the forehead, and a bit of tapering along the edges for a more delicate finish. The base red hue is dolled up with apricot highlights to help add in a color pop focused around the face. A few lowlights in a deeper red round out the look for tons of dimension and style appeal. Hair by Hair Benders Intl., Chattanooga, TN.

Subtle changes bring on a new vibe. A blunt cut is transformed into a piecey finish with punch by shattering the edges into layers of varying lengths. The solid orange hue is given a boost of color with a crimson red hue that frames the face and blends effortlessly into the original shade. A glossing serum palmed over the top brings the look shine. Hair by DASS Salon, Atlanta, GA.

Grown-out color gets a revival and the cut joins in the party. The hue is elevated to a bold white-blonde shade with shadowing at the roots. One side of the mane is cut higher, while the other is left lower in an asymmetrical finish. Sleek styling finishes off the updated look with the help of a flat iron (and a sassy tie!).
