1 Great LookAbundant layers give bounce and movement to these long lengths, which are filled with golden-brown highlights. Sideswept bangs and extra volume at the crown give way to cascading tresses that fall just past the shoulders. A nickel-sized amount of glossing straightener and blow-dry with a round brush to get tons of body. Strands can be smoothed or given a little twist with a ceramic flat iron.

2 Great LookBold bangs that feature a feathered edge help draw attention to this sleek style. A soft, honey shade gets a pop of brighter blonde highlights to add youthful vitality. Prime damp locks with a smoothing serum and follow up by blow-drying straight with a paddle brush. To finish off this silky look, run a flat iron from roots to ends and spritz on a shine spray for a healthy glow.

3 Great LookDramatic, layered bangs take this multi-tonal shag to a bold new place. Light golden highlights and strawberry blonde lowlights liven up a caramel base, which peeks from underneath long layers. Start off with a volumizing foam first and then flat iron the hair toward the face for a fabulous framing style. Add a bit of mystery by bringing long strands to cover one eye.

4 Great LookThis red-velvet shade screams class and sophistication. Endless curls kick up the volume and boldly cascade down from a slightly off-center part. Begin with a spritz of curling spray and wrap sections of hair around a one-inch curling iron. Keep those spirals natural looking by twisting curls in opposite directions. With all this volume, your coif can be kept off the face.

5 Great LookThis classic, shoulder-length style doesn’t have to be classically boring! Take advantage of those luxurious layers by blow-drying at the crown with a round brush for maximum lift at the roots. Ends can be flipped out at chin level and held into place with a light-hold hairspray. Medium and golden blonde strands mix and shine depending on the light for a shimmery effect.

6 Great LookA razor’s edge can bring the right kind of texture to a sassy style that mixes edgy with smooth. Sporting a deep side part, a ceramic flat iron straightens the many layers that fall to just below the chin. A touch of pomade can be used to finish the look and define piecey flourishes in the front. Applying a shine serum will help boost the multiple blonde tones for a brilliant sheen.

Hey!
Okay, I LOVE these looks! I mean, these are the best ’6 great looks’ you’ve ever had and I want to use some of them so keep it up! They really are great!
Zoey
Hi, Zoey!
Thanks for the lovely comment!
I agree with Georgia! I’m a short-hair fan and I love that these looks are all about short and sassy. Long hair isn’t for everyone and I’m glad that Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide recognizes this. Great magazine, great Web site!
I love these! I love short hair and I think these cuts are awesome! Finally–short cuts that don’t look like something my Mom or my Grandma would wear. Keep giving us the great, trendy looks. Not all of us love long hair!!
Georgia, Anne:
Thanks so much…you make us feel better!
wow why are all the great looks super short cuts? cant you give us more of a variety to choose from? i was disappointed with the magazine also.
Angel:
Sorry…we’ll do better, we promise! Sometimes our stylists get into a trend and they always love short for Spring
I loved all of these!! I would never get them, because I prefer long hair on myself, but these hairstyles would look great on women like my sister who totally ROCK the short hair look!! I think these hairstyles ARE great! keep ‘em comin’ Sophisticate!!
(an Lu, we all have our opinions, but it doesn’t mean you have to be rude about it!!)
Hi, Casey:
Thank you for the kind words!
Hi, Jeri and Zoey:
We’re sorry you don’t agree that these looks are great. Luckily, we have plenty more options in each issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide. Be sure to check out our latest issue, with over 950 styles! You’re sure to find something you think is not only great, but unbelievably beautiful!
I agree with the other statements, these looks are not so great’ especially, to be called the the “8 Great Looks” I wouldn’t even rate them in the top 100 out of 100! I do like the magazine and often do refer to the styles to style my own hair. Better luck next time with that one!
Hey! I don’t want to slam these looks or anything because I know there was probably a lot of work that went into them. But I will say this. Although these looks are great for the runway no teen is going to run around looking like that. I come here to see new styles that I could try and… well, these aren’t it. So I’m sorry! I don’t mean to be cruel or anything but… yeah.
Zoey
You must be kidding… those 8 ‘looks’ are totally hideous!! Really bad styles — frizzy, ridiculous, & TERRIBLE! Pathetically UGLY manes! (possibly #1 on a few young women — yet, it”s more of an immature, CHILDISH look that says: I’m a tpm-boy, no; I’m a girl, etc, .etc. Been played before — it’s NOT great)
Finally, did you see their make-up?? It sucks just as bad!! SERIOUSLY, I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW BAD THEY ALL LOOK!
One positive… thanks for the laugh!
Hi Lu:
Wow. Don’t hold back.
