Step out in style making smooth moves with sultry waves. A side part creates a faux side bang and sets the stage for beautiful, cascading curls. The key to molding these curves? Wrapping small sections of hair around the barrel of a large curling iron.

Hello there, Ms. Model! Take your place center stage donning a cropped coif that is sure to put you in the spotlight. This piecey pixie is all about tantalizing textures, styled with a flat iron and a dab of pomade to enhance light layers.

Talk back to SHG at “6 Great Looks”

  1. Faith says:

    :D
I totally love *Style 5* and would actually like to get my hair snipped off like that, but I’m a little nervous.

My hair is almost exactly the same (in color and length) as *Style 6*, except parted on the side with bangs.

However, it is naturally wavy, and I don’t want to end up with a Shirley Temple look.

I have a really great Helix flatiron, and Infiniti blow dryer, but I am afraid too much heat will dry out my hair. :/

I currently use Garnier leave-in conditioner, and it works alright.

    Any tips or advice?

    Thanks. ;)

    • Faith says:

Whoops. Guess it makes more sense to call it a “straightener” rather than a “flatiron”. My bad. :P

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Faith!
Try cutting your hair to either collar bone or shoulder length and put some fun layers into it. Remember, you’re not alone! A lot of hair for women who have hung onto extra long hair for a long time made this drastic change and the results have been outstanding. Ask your stylist about doing some face framing with the layers and try some highlights around the face. As for the heat styling, it’s ok to do as long you’re putting moisture back into your hair to combat the dryness. Using a leave-in conditioner is a good idea so you’re already ahead of the style game!

  2. Paola says:

I liked some of the colors (#1) but not the actual hairstyles.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

To each is own, Paola! Just wait until you see our August issue (on sale next week!), which features hundreds of fabulous coif looks!

  3. Emily says:

    L♥VE number 5! :)

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Emily!
That is a great cut! If you’re looking for my styles featuring layers and fringe, check out our April/May issue before it sells out! And keep an eye out for our June/July issue—we think you’ll really like the many styles of our cover girl.

  4. Jennie says:

Some of these looks have great artistic angles, but they would not work on the street. Even as a gorgeous, skinny 20-something I wouldn’t have the cahones to rock these! Interesting article, though.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Jennie!
Thanks for stopping by the Sophisticate’s website. Have you checked out the April/May issue with Jennifer Lopez on the cover? The issue is packed full of styles we think you’ll love!

  5. Fayth says:

I like none of them but that might be because i am only 13 years old…

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Fayth!
Have you picked up your copy of the April issue yet? We’re featuring some fabulous styles we think you’ll love, including the great hair looks of Glee’s Lea Michele, Good Luck Charlie’s Bridgit Mendler and the cast of TV’s Pretty Little Liars! Not to mention, there are some gorgeous styles in the Clip & Snip section, which makes it easy to snip out the look you like and take it to your stylist for inspiration.

  6. helena says:

  8. Riza Camille says:

Those hair styles are really great!
I love them specially the 5th one. I love red.
I gives an ellegant look. :)
    More power guys!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Riza!
Thanks for the lovely comments. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the March 2011 issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide tomorrow…we’re featuring many ravishing redheads!

  9. Zoey says:

THANKS SOOOOOO MUCH FOR DOING LONG HAIRSTYLES!!!!!!!!!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Zoey!
You’re welcome! Have you seen the latest issue of Sophisticate’s? Christina Aguilera’s on the cover, but she’s not the only long-haired bombshell we feature in the issue!

  10. Janelle says:

A lob I think is a sure hairstyle that looks great on just about anyone. Especially if your hairdresser cuts it right above the shoulders. You’ll look smokin! :)

  11. Princess says:

I LOVE the short hair styles! They are so cool! LOVE LOVE LOVE them!

  12. Zoey says:

    Hey!
Okay, I LOVE these looks! I mean, these are the best ’6 great looks’ you’ve ever had and I want to use some of them so keep it up! They really are great! :)
    Zoey

  13. Anne says:

I agree with Georgia! I’m a short-hair fan and I love that these looks are all about short and sassy. Long hair isn’t for everyone and I’m glad that Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide recognizes this. Great magazine, great Web site!

  14. Georgia says:

I love these! I love short hair and I think these cuts are awesome! Finally–short cuts that don’t look like something my Mom or my Grandma would wear. Keep giving us the great, trendy looks. Not all of us love long hair!!

  15. angel says:

wow why are all the great looks super short cuts? cant you give us more of a variety to choose from? i was disappointed with the magazine also.

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Angel:

Sorry…we’ll do better, we promise! Sometimes our stylists get into a trend and they always love short for Spring :)

  16. Casey says:

I loved all of these!! I would never get them, because I prefer long hair on myself, but these hairstyles would look great on women like my sister who totally ROCK the short hair look!! I think these hairstyles ARE great! keep ‘em comin’ Sophisticate!!
(an Lu, we all have our opinions, but it doesn’t mean you have to be rude about it!!)

  17. Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

    Hi, Jeri and Zoey:
We’re sorry you don’t agree that these looks are great. Luckily, we have plenty more options in each issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide. Be sure to check out our latest issue, with over 950 styles! You’re sure to find something you think is not only great, but unbelievably beautiful!

  18. Jeri Czarnik says:

I agree with the other statements, these looks are not so great’ especially, to be called the the “8 Great Looks” I wouldn’t even rate them in the top 100 out of 100! I do like the magazine and often do refer to the styles to style my own hair. Better luck next time with that one!

  19. Zoey McCusker says:

Hey! I don’t want to slam these looks or anything because I know there was probably a lot of work that went into them. But I will say this. Although these looks are great for the runway no teen is going to run around looking like that. I come here to see new styles that I could try and… well, these aren’t it. So I’m sorry! I don’t mean to be cruel or anything but… yeah.
    Zoey

  20. lu says:

You must be kidding… those 8 ‘looks’ are totally hideous!! Really bad styles — frizzy, ridiculous, & TERRIBLE! Pathetically UGLY manes! (possibly #1 on a few young women — yet, it”s more of an immature, CHILDISH look that says: I’m a tpm-boy, no; I’m a girl, etc, .etc. Been played before — it’s NOT great)
Finally, did you see their make-up?? It sucks just as bad!! SERIOUSLY, I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW BAD THEY ALL LOOK!
One positive… thanks for the laugh!
