I love your magazines now! I went to my hair stylist and saw this on his table and got really intrested in it I started reading it and he told me I could keep it cause he was going to get a more recent issue!!When I took it home I went to the web site and have been looking a lot into the hair tip of the day and into the hair and make up parts of it because I want to get good make up that is worth buying and because my hair is my favorite physical aspect about me!I’m going to start bying the magazines now and keep exploring the web site. Just one question though… where can I buy the magazine issues?

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Alexandra:

Thank you so much! We’re sold at Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Sally Beauty stores, Borders’ Books, Barnes & Noble and most drugstore and grocery store chains (those with magazine racks).

      Glad you’re a new reader!

  2. Phyllis says:

    What about us older broads?

While most hair styles look great on younger women with tight skin, older women (those who have not had their faces lifted) still like to look up-to-date.

Please address our problems and show us some hip styles to fit our facial structure and that are age appropriate – or not. I’m a very young 70 and still buy and use a vast array of hair and beauty products. I’d certainly buy your mag more often, it it addressed my age group.

    Do give it a thought.

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Phyllis:

We try and run styles for all ages! Many of the looks we feature may be modeled, at times, by women of a younger age; the style and color may still be perfect for you. Show your stylist and get their opinion!

      Thanks for writing….

  3. SANDRO JOSE KOHLE says:

  5. Jessica says:

I am a huge fan of the magazine. I’m also a huge fan of Kelly Clarkson’s hairstyles. She changes it up all the time. Her looks inspire me to change my hairstyle. I haven’t seen any recent photos or interviews on her. I’m ready for a change and I wanted to see what kind of locks she’s rockin at the moment. We have the same face shape and what looks good on her, looks good on me. So if you could catch up with her and publish some new stuff. I would greatly apprieciate it. Thanks

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Jessica!
We love Kelly Clarkson, too! Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for any new looks she may be sporting.

  6. Amber says:

I buy every issue of Sophisticate’s that comes out. Last week my sister-in-law and I were looking through a big pile of them and I realized something. Every single issue that I own(some dating’08) has a cover model with long blonde hair! EVERY ONE OF THEM! Do you have a problem with red-heads? Can’t you give a brunette a chance? I love your magazine, but there’s something wrong here.

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Amber:

So glad you’re a regular reader–good catch! We’ve featured Eva Longoria-Parker on our cover and other brunettes. Style goes in waves and, as of late, with all the amazing country artists, etc., they are all blonde. We always cover all haircolor on our insets and in our pages. I’m brunette, so not partial :)

  7. Discount Mbt Shoes says:

Really nice and impressive blog i found today.

  8. Kayce Zolty says:

Hello, I found your blog in a new directory of blogs. I don’t know how your blog came up, must have been a typo. Your blog looks good, have a nice day.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Kayce!
Thanks for stopping by! We’re always working hard to make our Web site just as fab as our magazine.

Thanks so much! We wanted our Web site to compliment and enhance our publication–Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide. Reader friendly and beautiful! So glad you enjoy!!!

  10. Tessa says:

I would like to comment on the statement regarding Sophisticates not adding women in their 40s and up. First of all, there are “aging” women pictured in the magazine! They are very fortunate in looking so beautiful and youthful for their age, however, they too have worked at keeping their skin flawless and of course ageless! So before the criticism please research before you comment negativity. I have been buying this magazine for 2 1/2 years now and I love it. There are lots of diff pics, however, there are some repeats in the clip & snip section. That is the only thing that I do not like and the fact that I can never win any of the free stuff and I try each and every time! Lol :)

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Tessa:

Thank you so much for noticing. We work hard to be all inclusive and because you are a regular reader you notice. Again thank you!

  11. Dee Dee says:

I am wondering if there is a way to lighten up my hair color that has turned out too dark? I just colored it yesturday and it turned out almost black. Is there something I can do at home to lighten it up a bit?

    Thanks

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Dee Dee:

We’re checking with our experts and will be back!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Dee Dee!
For color removal, I recommend professional assistance to ensure the integrity of the hair. To do a small amount of color removal we use a bleach, developer, water and a chelating shampoo mixture to shampoo the hair for a couple of minutes. This removes some of the haircolor and opens the cuticle enabling us to then adjust the final tone. If you attempts this at home, I recommend testing a strand on a small section first and proceed based on those results. The only other approach I recommend is leaving a chelating shampoo on the hair, which is then covered in a plastic cap and heated for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing. Depending on the exact product you originally used, this process may sometimes give a satisfactory amount of lift.

  12. Elaine Markowitz says:

    Hi there,
I hope this is the right place to ask this question. In the latest issue, a certain hairdryer was recommended in several spots, but with no manufacturer or purchase information. It was called a Turbo, followed by numbers. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. I have already tried Chi (doesn’t hold up well), T3 (didn’t think it was that special), FHI (decent).
    Thanks
    Elaine

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Elaine!
We answered your question over in the Hair Pro Advice area of the Hair How-Tos section. Thanks for stopping by!

  13. Kelli says:

Hi, I am looking for a picture of Jennifer Nettles that was apparently in the December issue. My hair is very thick and slightly wavy, so I’m wondering if I could pull off her short, wavy cut. Thanks!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Billy Lowe says:

      Hi, Kelli!
Think about your hair’s texture and the products and tools you are comfortable working with. This look is easy to pull off if you already have short, wavy hair. It’s a combination of the beach-wave look and the classic Hollywood-era style, which looks great on a lot of people. This style either happens naturally on its own, or it takes a little time and effort each day. I would take this photo in and have a consultation with your stylist. Salon results at home begin with knowing what the professionals do so you can achieve these looks all the time. Ask for a styling lesson so you can learn to create the look on your own, and be sure you purchase or use the same styling products and tools that your stylist uses. Always model your own beauty routine after what your stylist does in the salon.

  14. Crystal says:

My scalp and hair is very very dry at the base of my forehead. I have tried every conditioner and nothing works. Do you have any suggestions on products. Really could use the advice. Thanks

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Belinda and Frank Gambuzza says:

      Hi, Crystal!
We recommend Bain Gommage by Kerastase, which is a shampoo designed for dry scalps. However, if the problem persists, please consult a physician, as the shampoo is simply preventative and not medicinal.

  15. Carey says:

I was wondering how to style my hair like Gretchen Rossi’s signature style on The Real Housewives of Orange County. Any advice?

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Carey:

Our in-depth, exclusive interview was published in our February 2010 edition of Sophisticate’s. It takes Gretchen about an hour and a half to style her hair. She washes, conditions and then uses a smoothing serum (her hair is naturally curly) and blows it dry and straight. Then she uses hot rollers (leaves in for five or ten minutes), removes them, turns her head over, shakes it and then applies a light spray.

Don’t miss an issue–for our detailed beauty interviews!

      Hope this helps.

what is the best conditioner and shampoo

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Anymous:

The best shampoo and conditioner, generally speaking, is a tough question. Always depends on what your needs are. Pricing? Do you color your hair? Use any other hair chemicals (perms, etc.)? There are so many terrific ones featured regularly in Sophisticate’s; you should check our product pages where we help narrow it all down!

      Thanks for writing.

  17. Caitlin Hobbes says:

when did you find that out?

  18. Radiant Red says:

First off, I am such a fan of your magazine! I have a huge collection that I have gathered through out the years and when ever one of my friends need a new style, they know to come to me and my collection!

I also wanted to comment on the inclusion of specific shades of our favorite stars. Remember that shades will look different on us sometimes, depending on what shade we start with or what condition our hair is in…So even though you use the same blonde as Carrie or Taylor, you may not end up with the same color! Trust a great colorist and bring in a fab photo (from Sophisticate’s, of course!) and that will be your best bet for a great new hue!

Love the mag and keep up with all great work!

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

Thank you so much…you made our year! We really appreciate your continued support and wish you the very best in 2010…

  19. virginia says:

Why don’t you have more styles on women that are over 30, 40 50 ect.. you know we have hair problems to, and your magazine has nothing on women that are aging, i have looked at the news stands at your magazines and not once have i seen anyone in there over 30. You know the baby boomers are going to be the big spenders and the women are going to want to look good on there get aways and vacations and just to look good at there age, you people seem to forget yes everyone get older, and so do the stars, yea they get old to.

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Hi Virginia:

We always try and include a wide representation of women from all walks of life. Will try harder!

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Hi Virginia:

I looked at our current issue, again, and please note that we feature an interview with Jaclyn Smith (61); Lisa Rinna (46); hairstyle information on Dana Delaney (53); Marcia Cross (44); Jennifer Aniston (40); etc.

Thought I’d let you know in case you didn’t see!

      Thanks again….

  20. Liz says:

I love playing around with different colors but I wish that with a celeberty Pic you also add the color so you could “copy” it. Like Yes it clearly Blonde in the photo but what Blonde…lol Ive been searching for a very long time for Carrie Underwoods hair color…. Thanks :-)

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

      Hi Liz:

Thanks for your insight. We will work harder on this and try and include more specifics.

Look for Carrie in an upcoming issue; with an interview with her glam team!
