Hi,
I love your magazine and I appreciate all the stars you include in each issue! I highlight my sister’s hair at home quite often and I’m wondering if it’s safe to use aluminum foil with at-home haircolor. On the package, it sometimes says not to mix with metal, but I was wondering if it was safe. Thank you!
Depends on product. Check the product’s Web site and see if they have specific advice. Good luck Brianna!
Hi! I really love Dakota Fanning’s sleek and simple hairstyle. Can you please print a recent picture of her in your magazine? Thank you for making an affordable and high-quality magazine!
Thank you so much Elizabeth…will do!
I saw an making up article in current edition of hairstyles, called the bombshell, can you tell me where to go to find the colors used in the makeup or make over.
Victoria’s Secret!
Hi,
so I really liked how jennifer lopez’s hair looked in the last issue especially on that full page picture of her in the magazine and I ripped it out to give it to my hairstylist but now I cant find it and they dont even have it in stores anymore. Is there any way I could get that picture cuz I really wana get it done just like that
Hi Doris,
While we cannot provide back issues, we can tell you there’s another gorgeous picture of Jennifer Lopez in the April/May issue—on stands now! Plus, there are lots of other stars in the current issue that have a similar style to the American Idol judge, and we think you’ll find a look you love; especially in our 30 Best Styled Stars mini magazine!
You might be able to find the magazine at a library, but it would be better to bring the whole magazine, rather than rip pages from a library magazine to show your stylist.
I have been haveing hair loss problems since my early 20. I have very thin hair and it doesnt even grow almost at all. I wear it up in a clip cuase it looks so bad all out. I have been to all kinds of doctors and no one can figure out what is wrong. I went from being a young biracial women with hair down to my but to a head of hair i wont dare wear out. I just want to feel beautiful again. Right now i dont feel that way. I have 5 amazeing children and a husband who loves me so much but i cant help but to wish for the beautiful hair i once had. Please help!!
Hi Crisha,
One of the most important things you can do for your hair is conditioning. In addition to your regular cleansing routine, try a leave-in conditioner and a bi-weekly deep conditioning treatment. Moisture is important in hair growth. Also, set up a consultation with your hairstylist, who may better be able to assist you upon seeing your hair in person. Good luck!
I’m a cosmetologist and thinning hair is a very common issue discussed in our salon. We have found that clients that use Biotin on a daily basis are having great results with there hair. Many have even started filling back out in their thin spots. But the biggest change is the fact that their hair is growing so much better than it was.
well crisha u probly need to get some of the hair loss hair produts in hair stores to grow ur hair back
Crisha,I know it might sound crazy but our hair and skin need vitamins and nutrients too. I am a cosmetologist who suffers from thin hair as well. I have found that a diet with plenty of proteins and folic acid make a big difference. Also my pharmacist recommended prenatal vitamins for all women as he says they are the best multi vitamin we can take.
As to hair care products, I have found Joico Body Luxe Thickening it is in a green bottle. your stylist can get it for you. good luck
Hi! My hair is almost halfway down my back and it’s very thick and medium brown, but i want it about 4 inches longer. It seems like my hair hasn’t grown at all in the past 4 years. I was just wondering if there were any haircare products to make my hair grow longer. I’ve been laying off the heat styling for about 5 months now, but it hasn’t seemed to really help. Any recommendations would be great, thanks!!!
Hi Whitney,
There are a number of products on the market today that are designed to promote healthy hair growth. Most women have a certain length that their hair will grow to and beyond that it just seems to dissipate. See your stylist for a trim to keep your hair in the best possible shape and help you to grow it to your maximum length.
Hi!
I have light skin and blue eyes and medium brown hair and my tone is cool. I’m looking for an at-home color kit that will color my hair darkest brown, but not quite black, and the tone should be cool, thanks!
Checking Brianna and Whitney…will be back shortly!
Hi Brianna,
When going darker, try using a demi-permanent haircolor. Deeper shades are more difficult to remove, so when you change your mind you won’t be stuck! Most deeper shades are cool since you can only see warmth on shades light enough to provide that reflection. The closer to black you go, the cooler the shades will be. But keep in mind, if you go dark and suddenly want a lighter shade, it’s best to leave that transition in the hands of a salon pro.
I hate how my hair is so fuzzy throughout the whole day, at the top, and, well, everywhere! It really bothers me, and all I want my hair to look like is glamorous and smooth and I want people to notice it. I don’t know if it’s the shampoo and conditioner, because I use herbal essences and it’s a really good reccomended hair product, but it’s still not doing anything. Can you suggest any tips?
Thanks.
Checking with our experts Ashley!
Hi Ashley,
Wanting your hair to look healthy and not fuzzy is a great desire. Do you have natural curl to your hair? This type of hair often gets fuzzy. Although shampoo and conditioners are very important to the appearance of your hair, you mention that you want it to be glamorous and get noticed. To tame and polish unruly, naturally fuzzy hair will depend more on your styling products and techniques. Look for moisturizing products—they are designed to leave moisture in your hair as you dry it, while also protecting it when you iron it. Also, meet with a stylist and ask the pro for styling tips and tricks. A good stylist will be happy to show you how to recreate the style they create for you in the salon and to educate you on some professional products that will actually do much more for your hair.
hi! i’m dying to know lea micheles dark cool brown color formula from the nov/ dec issue. It’s inthe 33rd anniversary pages. i’m in love with the deep cool color and have dark hair but i want that cool tone not a warm hue i always tend to get!please tell me!
Hi Liz,
Before deciding on a brunette shade, consider your eyes and skin tone so you find the best brunette haircolor for you! If you have a little warmth to your skin, a cool brown shade would look great on you.
I have hair that is heavly heigh lighted w/ Blonde & light brown & now am thinking I want somthing more natural. Like my dark hair back w/ the ombre heighlights. Just wondered what opion’s r.
Hi, Danielle!
The ombre haircolor is a hot trend. Check out Sophisticate’s special 33rd Anniversary issue (the one with Carrie Underwood on the cover!) for more inspiration. Check out the “33 Looks” article and you’ll find a TV star/fashion designer who loves wearing ombre haircolor!
Well, I don’t know if you have already intiated getting the auburn or ombre highlights done, but as a professional colorist for 10 years, I always suggest that my clients wait two weeks befor changing hair color and get a deep treatment one week before color process to protect hair from damage and breakage. On the light brown high lights, I would have gone over that present color and added a 7GN and used an auburn brown toner over the whole head. That way you can still have highlights, but they would give you a more natural look. if however your blonde highlights are chunky then you would have to splice the blonde highlights and deposit the 7GN on the leftover strands. You would end up with a natural color like Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester. Good hair days! It’s winter so keep your deep treatments appointments and use sunscreen under on your face every day for anti wrinkle prevention and night cream on your face and neck at night before bed. I also tell my clients to invest in silk pillowcases.
I really like the magazine, but i have one major problem. I have a round face(fat) and i wear glasse. i Never see haircuts that are designed or styled for my type. i know that most are probably suitable haircuts for me, but i would love to see the styles and cuts being worn by someone like me.
Hi, Melissa!
Have you seen the “Find Your Perfect Cut” article in the October issue of Sophisticate’s? In this article, renowned hairstylist Eva Scrivo shares her tips for finding a haircut that’s flattering for a round face. And don’t forget to check out the “Cuts For Your Face Shape” section in the Great Looks tab above!
What color should I use to tone my hair color from.black to my natural color which is a light blondish brown.
Hi, Stacy!
The age old question is, “Will the black hair color lighten at all? And if it does; how much?” The best answer is: trust a professional. Ask for a test strand of color removal to determine if the black will move and how far. This transformation will be a two or three-step process to get you near your goal. Prepare yourself to not get to your goal for a few months. It may be healthiest for your hair to take it in stages. Take a cue from Sophisticate’s favorite Katy Perry, who recently debuted a new red hue to make the transition from black to a lighter shade. Good luck!
I always love the hair but the jewelry in this last issue caught my eye. Any idea where I could get the necklace Kimberly Perry is wearing on page 75? I think it’s called a Fleur. I would love to buy that.
Thanks,
Tanya
Hi, Tanya!
We’re working on an answer for you…visit soon!
Hi, Tanya!
We asked Big Machine Records where Kimberly Perry picked up her gorgeous fleur-de-lis necklace and the label told us a fashion stylist brought it to the set. Try looking at on-line megastores like Amazon and eBay by searching the term “fleur-de-lis necklace.” Best of luck!
I found a style in one of your magazines. I really want to do this to myself. i just need some help with how to accomplish this two color weave. Its light blonde and a medium red. I believe I can do this myself, just need some instructions.
Hi, Danielle!
When it comes to the application of multiple haircolors, we recommend seeing a salon professional who will help you achieve your desired result. At times, colorists mix a few shades together to create the haircolor you’re looking for so you may not be able to get those exact shades by doing it at home.
I would love to see Ellen Page, Natalie Portman, and/or Mila Kunis on the cover of your magazine.
Thanks for the suggestions, Katie! Have you seen Natalie Portman in the 50 Best bonus celebrity mini-magazine, currently featured in the June/July issue? We think you’ll like!
Love your blog so I’m going to subscribe
Hi, William:
Thanks for the love!
Great blog, keeping me from working on hair.
Good to see more people writing about hair products.
William, Ronnie…
Thanks so much!!
i LOVE kellie picklers curly bob i once had my hair like that it was SSSOOO cute !
We love her beachy waves she wore for her wedding; check out our Facebook page!
I love Farrah Fawcett’s 1976 hair! Its super cute, and BIG ,I heard you use a round brush and blow dryer, and of course volumizing spray:) But sometimes she has a bit more curl to her hair.So my question is, how is that done, without having two hairstyles in one? Thanks:)
Hi, Tara!
We loved Farrah’s hair as well; she will always remain one of the biggest influences ever! Round-brushing your hair while you blow-dry it helps create a curved base shape. If you want bigger curls, try setting your damp hair on rollers and setting the waves by blow-drying your hair while it’s setting in the rollers. Once dry, gently loosen the rollers, tousle with your fingers and shake it!
I love Julianne Hough’s long layered hairstyle. How would i describe that cut to my hairstylist to get that same cut and be able to style it that same way she does? Thanks!
Hi, Marilyn!
Check out our exclusive interview with Julianne Hough’s glam squad in our 32nd Anniversary issue—on stands now! Inside, her personal stylist reveals the singer/dancer’s best mane moves. Then take the magazine directly to your stylist and show him or her exactly how you want your hair to look. Best of luck!
