Magical Holiday Looks /wp-content/uploads/2018/11/8.jpg

This holiday season, the right hair accessory can mean the difference between a look that’s naughty or nice—pick which one you want to be in our latest issue!

Ponytail Perfection

The ponytail: quite possibly beauty’s easiest hairstyle to perfect–and the one you can wear almost anywhere with just a little variation. Here are four beautiful ponies to put in your style portfolio for future use!

VIGOROUS VOLUME

Your hair is your crown, so celebrate how royal it is with a truly glamourous silhouette. Emphasizing the length of your  mane, tresses are teased to chic heights at the crown and throughout the ponytail. Sheer perfection!

SIMPLY SLEEK

Don’t waste your beauty time spending hours on your hair–this simple updo will have you looking sleek in no time. Add a curled-out end to create a fresh look, while leaving your hair over your ear to add to the already unique style.

THE SULTRY SIDE

Put a twist on the classic side pony with a tucked-under and charistmaitc curl. Walk out of your door knowing you have a tailored hairstyle that will make everyone want to know your secret. Psssst! You’re not telling!

TRUE ELEGANCE

Bring back the bow when you want to add a fresh pop to your hair. Soft curls make this style the perfect romantic look for any date night.

Balayage Success

Before

The perfect highlights are only a salon appointment away! Balayage is a highlighting technique in which your color pro paints the highlight shade onto your hair, much like an artist brushes color on the canvas. The result is a custom look designed just for you. Here’s how hair pro Stephanie Borud, of Salon Roxy in Valrico, FL, created this balayage highlight perfection…

Stephanie Borud

“I deepened the natural haircolor just enough to make it a richer tone. There needed to be a ‘pop,’ so caramel highlights on the chocolate base made for the perfect fit. To style it, on wet hair, I applied All-Nutrient Straight+ Smoothing Cream all over, and a little Mousse+ Foaming Volumizer to the roots for volume. After blow-drying, I applied a light coat of Raspbody Freeze Hairspray to each section before curling the hair with a 1.5″ curling iron. I followed with a couple pumps of Shine+ Serum, emulsified inm y hands, and finger-combed through the curls.”

Disheveled French Twist

quick mane

Jenny Balding, NYC Cutler/Redken Stylist, shares her favorite style to take you from work to play. The best part? You can create this disheveled French twist in under 10 minutes!

Disheveled French Twist

  • Start with day old hair as you’ll have some texture in your hair and it will be easier to manage.
  • Use dry shampoo to really boost the texture of your roots (Redken Pillow Proof dry shampoo is excellent).  Spray throughout your roots and even the mid-lengths to create body and texture.  Shake through with your fingers.
  • Use a light hairspray for a little hold. Mist over all and shake up with your hands to really create body and movement.
  • Section out the crown and front area and pin to one side.
  • Sweep the sides and back together and then twist upwards and pin.  Make sure to use hairpins (U shaped pins) so they can really anchor the hair.
  • Take your top section and roll under and pin at the crown for a little height in this area.
  • Loosen the hairline a little with your fingers to suit your face shape, then add a hair accessory of your choice.
  • To finish, add a little shine by misting Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist all over – this is very light but gives just the right amount shine you need.

Big Color Move

Before

Mane pro Trent Day, owner/stylist at Salon Roxy in Valrico, FL, and an All-Nutrient Professional & Design Team member, transformed a mini bob with overgrown roots into a platinum blonde look, then a gorgeous raspberry hue. Here’s how he did it…

Trent Day

“I started by lightening the new hair growth at the roots, then added in soft beige and gold to create a dimensional blonde (right). For the second look (above), I wanted to show a bit of fun and versatility, so I did a color melt, starting darker at the base and lightening toward the ends.”

Curl Factor

Before

Gorgeous curls can be yours! It just takes a little bit of expert know-how, and tress expert Trend Day, owner/stylist at Salon Roxy in Valrico, FL, (he’s also an All-Nutrient Professional & Design Team member), shares how he turned this natural texture into a gorgeous head of defined ringlets…

Trent Day

“On wet hair, I applied All-Nutrient Polish+ Smoothing Gloss, added roller clips to the roots where I wanted lift, and allowed curls to air-dry. The result is a gorgeous, frizz-free natural curl that can move. Natural curls require patience and the right finishing products. For the cut, removing weight in the interior and softening (not always removing) the corner on the exterior of the shape’s cut keeps it light and loose.”

Lush, Layered Volume

Before

Got natural waves? Then this cut and styling method is perfect for you. “This look is pretty versatile, and many different hair types could wear this style, but if you have fine, wavy hair, this look definitely works for you,” shares hair guru Alexandria Mari of Vintage Salon And Day Spa in Rowley, MA. Here’s how she created the look…

Alexandria Mari

“I applied All-Nutrient Texxure+ Blow Out Cream all over before blow-drying the hair. To help achieve a smoother end result, I used Shine+ Flat Iron Spray before I curled the hair with a flat iron. I then sprayed on Ultra+ Hold Hairspray to finish the look.”

Urban Chic

lilac dream

It’s okay to blush–if you’re talking about your hair, that is. This pastel lilac hue washes over a modern bob cut for a distince mane profile without a lot of fuss. The bob shape includes an elevated nape and notched bangs to bring it into today’s trendy world.

pretty piecey

It’s not as sweet and fairy-like as a traditional pixie–this one has a bit of sass to it, and that’s just what you need. Layers are tousled and teased, flipped and cajoled into ruffled silhouette that only gets better the more you tugged your fingers through it.

Hair by James Hair Fashion Club, Italy.

pomp & circumstance

Full fringe, pompadour crown, long length–the trifecta of a modern look if we’ve ever seen one. A round brush is a definite must, followed by styling spray and even a bobby pin or two to keep lengths tucked behind the ears.

Miranda Kerr

Australia-born Miranda Kerr rose to fame as one of Victoria’s Secret’s Angels, and still stands as a beauty icon with her cute an stylish bob snip.

The bob cut is a classic, and Miranda knows how to make it work in today’s fashion-forward world: with extra texture. Hair is flipped out on the ends, with easy waves running throughout. A curling iron helps create the curves.

Curls & Waves

blonde twirls

A smooth crown gives way to buttery blonde swirls in this gorgeous mane silhouette. Sections of hair are wrapped vertically around the outside of a large-barrel curling iron, then released and allowed to cool. To keep the curl in tact, ringlets are finger-combed through with a touch of styling pomade on fingertips and fluffed for perfection.

curl rebellion

A riot of curves explodes and twists from every inch of the head, creating a glorious profile of excitement. Natural curls can lead the way, but curling-iron versions can also stand up to the style test. Just keep everything tousled and mist with flexible-hold hairspray to keep curls in motion all day long.

Hair by Cebado, Barcelona, Spain.

spiral elegance

There’s something to be said about the definition and long-lasting hold of a hot-roller spiral curl… Individual ringlets are created by wrapping lengths around hot rollers of varying sizes, allowing the rollers to cool completely before removing. A touch of pomade slicked over each spiral tames any awkward flyaways and completely defines each and every spiral curl.

Katharine McPhee

Though we originally admired Katharine McPhee mostly on the radio after her turn on American Idol, these days we’re spying on her acting chops and style profile on the television show Scorpion.

Proving you don’t need a ton of curvature to rock a wavy look, Katharine opts for a subtle beachy wave that starts at chin level with only a gentle twist or two before the ends. A quick flip with the flat iron does the job!

Great Bangs

lash kissing

Bangs so beautifully cut they blend right in, but somehow still stand out as a statement beauty detail. Very long layers kiss the lashes and even head beyond a bit to form a very full fringe. Blow-dry with a round brush, then get ready to peek mysteriously from behind your tress curtain.

Hair by Hairbenders Intl., Chattanooga, TN.

straight across

Maybe your mom was on to something when she cut those straight-across bangs in the kitchen when you were ten. The trick to making them work for today’s modern cuts is to keep them long, brushing across the eyebrows, and to make sure there’s a tiny bit of notching going on–so the line isn’t completely straight. Style by brushing bangs down and fingering through while blow-drying.

on the side

A super-short nape combines with long crown layers for a totally cute pixie with edge. Further advancing the style’s cool vibe is an elongated bang that sweeps low over the eye on one side. A bit of styling gel helps keep the look spikey, while a mist of hairspray will help hold those bangs precisely in place.

Lisa Rinna

Days Of Our Lives alum Lisa Rinna is famous for her short cut, which we regularly get to see on Real Housewives.

Short and sassy hair pairs beautifully with layered bangs with a hint of an angled side part. A round brush and blow-dry infuses hair with volume, and positions bangs just so. Hint: Brush bangs both to the right and the left while blow-drying for a fuller finish.

Sleek Styling

smooth pixie

Show off every detail of a short cut–including splashe sof teal and orange–with a super-smooth surface. Blow-dry short strands with a paddle brush, then slick over the top of hair with a glosser to add shine and slick layers down. Pretty perfect, right?

Hair by Tangles Salon & Spa, Wichita Falls, TX.

glassy lengths

Love your long hair? There’s no better way to show off every perfect inch than with a glassy-smooth surface. Super-long lengths are blow-dried with a large round brush, using it to add a hint of lift at the crown and roll inches into smooth submission.

Hair by Muse Of London, United Kingdom.

sleek layers

Face-framing color is shown to its full fiery brilliance with the help of sleek styling. A flat iron run over blow-dried tresses creates the ultimate smooth surface, followed by a dab of gloss serum to add extra shine as well as a long-lasting sleek surface.

Hair by Cloud 9 Salon, Martin’s Ferry, OH.

Kate Hudson

Almost Famous, Glee, Bride Wars, Marshall–what haven’t we seen the ultra-blonde Kate Hudson in that we haven’t loved. From her long lock looks to her shaved head (!), there’s always something to admire…

Proving that sleek doesn’t have to mean flat, Kate goes for a red-carpet look with smooth detailing. Tresses are brushed smoothly back on the sides, with extra height at the crown for a pompadour-inspired finish.

Cuts For Your Face Shape

Find out whether you’re a heart, oval, round or square because there’s a perfect (and not so perfect) way to wear your hair. It’s time to flaunt those features, pretty girl…

Your face shape: OVAL/LONG

OVAL/LONG

You fall into this category if the widths of your brow, cheekbones and jaw are almost equal, and you have a gently rounded hairline.

FAMOUS FACES
Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel

YOUR SUPER SNIP
“This is the most versatile face shape. You can pull off almost any look—short or long, straight or wavy,” explains celebrity stylist Riccardo Maggiore of Riccardo Maggirore Salon in New York City. “Sophisticated bobs, bangs and long, beachy waves are especially flattering.”

Your face shape: ROUND

ROUND

Your hairline and chin are rounded, and your face is nearly as wide as it is long.

FAMOUS FACES
Fergie, Drew Barrymore, Ginnifer Goodwin

YOUR SUPER SNIP
Try cuts that fall just below the chin. “Soft layers are great because they’ll make your face appear slimmer and tend to remove bulk from the sides,” shares celebrity stylist Riccardo Maggiore of Riccardo Maggirore Salon in New York City. “Bangs are flattering, too, but keep them long or sideswept.”

Your face shape: SQUARE

SQUARE

If you have a strong, straight jawline and an equally straight hairline, and the length of your face is almost equal to its width, you’re a square face type.

FAMOUS FACES
Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Nicole Richie

YOUR SUPER SNIP
The key to your best style is a cut that softens your angular jaw and forehead. “Soft, long layers around the face with a long, sideswept bang work fantastically,” notes hair pro Benjamin Mohapi, director of the Galvin Benjamin Salon Group. Are you more of a cropped cutie? “You can also get away with a short, spikey cut,” says celebrity stylist Riccardo Maggiore of Riccardo Maggirore Salon in New York City.

Your face shape: HEART/DIAMOND

HEART/DIAMOND

This is you if you’re face is wide at the brow and near the hairline but especially narrow at the jaw.

FAMOUS FACES
Kim Kardashian, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson

YOUR SUPER SNIP
The goal is to draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones. “Brow-grazing fringe, sideswept bangs, a strong part and hair that falls at or below your jawline will look amazing,” comments celebrity stylist Riccardo Maggiore of Riccardo Maggirore Salon in New York City. “If you want a short cut, keep top layers soft and long. If you are opting for a longer look, go for long layers that graze your cheekbones.”
