One Great Look—Chocolate Curls

Hair by James Cornwell
Iva Bella Salon, Warrenton, VA

Embrace the beauty of your natural curls with this easy-going coif. Voluminous, curly strands are pulled to the back and the top half is plaited into a fishtail braid. The remaining hair is left out for a flirty silhouette.

Curly Cues

“Every day is another journey with this hair.”
–Emmy Rossum

Natural curly girl Emmy showed off her fabulous spirals on Instagram, with a nod to all those gorgeous mane curves. Texture is a popular trend right now, so if you, too, enjoy curls, go ahead and let them unfurl! Just remember to keep them moisturized (Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils Quench Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner is a good product must-have) so they always look fresh and pretty.

Pink Up!

Lucy Hale does it one more time. Not only is she queen of the wavy bob, but now she’s gone and done the prettiest shade of rosy-gold pink. Even if it is temporary, we still heart, love, want, lust, wish, need to have it. #LucyStrikesAgain

Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, Jason Aldean, Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Kelly Clarkson, Florida Georgia Line, Alan Jackson, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Midland, Maren Morris, Jon Pardi, Bebe Rexha, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Brett Young.

That’s the list of performers you get to see tonight on the ACM Awards, happening live in Las Vegas. Carrie is opening up the show with her new single “Cry Pretty.”

Not only is the music going to be awesome, but we’re very much looking forward to the red carpet, where country’s best and prettiest stars will be doing the walk of glam.

Knot Your Average Style

Hair by Tracy Nikolai
JCPenney Salon, Appleton, WI

Go with something fun and trendy with this cool upsweep. Golden-blonde tresses are styled into several knots going down the center of the head to create a Mohawk silhouette.

Camila’s Mane Secret

So how does Camila Mendes of Riverdale get her raven locks so smooth and silky? The star revealed her secret mane weapon, along with a big beauty announcement… “So excited to reveal that I’m partnering with John Frieda Hair Care for an awesome new campaign! I’ve been using their Frizz Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum since I was in fifth grade, so this partnership truly is a perfect fit.”

One Great Look—Rose Gold Goals

Hair by Amber Kelley
Hair Artistry by Amber Kelley, Kansas City, MI

A luscious bronze base is the perfect pairing for the rose-gold dipped tips of this glamorous mane. Locks are spun into effortless curls that tumble beyond the shoulders.

Grooming Game

Blonde Ambition

It’s April, and thoughts of summer are starting to seep through, aren’t they? For Lucy Hale, she’s already ahead of the game, having lightened up her dark locks into a summery shade of blonde. If you’re thinking of adding a little sunshine to your own tresses, talk to your color pro about how you can do it without damaging your mane. Maybe some strategic highlights instead of all-over color? A bronze hue instead of platinum? So many options for looking beautiful this summer!

3 Must-Have Styles

Looking to change up your long-hair? Why not try one of these fab looks…from Blaze Salon in Cedar Rapids, IA, and William Wesley Salon & Day Spa in Davenport, IA. Photography by Tom Carson.

Butterscotch-waved  tresses are styled into large, defined curls for texture, and tucked and pinned as shown.

Hair is split and rolled into a two-strand twist-inspired braid to frame the face. If you’re handy you can try it yourself, or have your favorite stylist give it a whirl!

Dare to be glamourous with this look. Simple and sexy, hair spills from an off-center part and is curled at ends. Tease crown for a little more luxe volume.

Our new issue is on the newsstands and we have hundreds of beautiful hairstyles that you’ll simply fall in love with for Spring! We also showcase some trending haircolor looks like this beautiful Ultra Violet look from the pros at JCPenney Salon and The Salon By InStyle At JCPenney. Hope you love!

Copper Charm

Red-heads heat up the style scene! For this coif, created by Michayla Sierra from JCPenney Salon in Visalia, CA, shiny, ginger-spiced strands free-fall past the shoulders, ending in luxurious, bouncy curls on the end.

Are You Losing Hair?

Hair loss in women can be caused by poor diet, stress, post-pregnancy, menopause and damage from over-styling. If you’re seeing a lot more hair loss than normal, it’s time to nourish your hair follicles to help prevent further hair loss. How do you feed your hair? With essential vitamins and minerals. To make life easier, you can find everything you need with Viviscal Extra Strength Hair Growth Supplements.

Who can resist the style statement a lux bob makes, like this look styled by Matthew Sithira of JCPenney Salon in Pleasanton, CA. Decadent chocolate locks are snipped into a volume-packed, asymmetrical bob with subtle layers throughout. The outer-most layer and the lengthy tendrils in front are effortlessly curled for added texture.

One Great Look: Subtle Shading

Hair by Dusti Ricker
Wanderlust Hair Art Studio, Joplin, MO

A hickory-brunette base is the perfect choice to show-off the subtle pops of light blonde and soft rose of this mane. Tresses cascade just past the shoulders in perfectly executed beachy waves that help this coif look glam!

So. So. Sleek.

We’re starting to see more sleek and smooth styles on the red carpet, and we have to say: we don’t hate it. Beachy waves will forever be in our style portfolio, but there’s something about a shiny, silky look, like Shay Mitchell’s ponytail vibe. Created by celebrity hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons, it’s an iconic look we’re more than happy to add to our repertoire.

Elizabeth Hurley Rules Beautifully!

Ooh…we love Sundays. Why? Because E’s The Royals is on. And, who better to rule than the beautiful 52 year-old model/actress Elizabeth Hurley! The drama series, in it’s fourth season, focuses on the tainted politics and family issues behind those palace dwellers. Tune in…you may love!

Well kind of. This is the last weekend our issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide featuring Selena Gomez on the cover is on sale…because our new issue hits newsstands this coming week. Did you pick up your copy of Selena? If not, you’ll for sure not want to miss it. We have hundreds of fab hairstyle ideas, haircolor looks and haircuts you will definitely want. So…click off your phone and hit the newsstands…before it’s too late 🙂

Gilded Spirals

Sultry waves of gold are always a hair hit! Strands cascade from a deeper colored root in bombshell curls that tumble way past the shoulders in effortless layers. Created by Jailen Funyak from JCPenney Salon in Clarksville, TN.

One Great Look: Caramel Curls

Hair by Traci Laster
Salon 315, Dalton, GA

Caramel and chocolate are always a hit combination. A dark root seamlessly turns into a gorgeous butterscotch-blonde as tresses fall. The darker root allows for more time between coloring and more styling opportunities.

Britney! Britney! Britney!

Today is a good day. French fashion and beauty house Kenzo officially debuted its La Collection Memento N°2 campaign today–and it stars Britney Spears! Shot by famed photographer Peter Lindbergh in L.A., the singer is shown in a variety of looks, all with her long, blonde locks flowing beautifully. Love seeing her looking so absolutely fabulous! #BritneyForever

Total. Glam. Inspo.

Jennifer Lopez. Big volume. Great texture. Probably the only time we’ll tell you it’s okay to brush out your curls (as long as you do it gently). Let’s top all that off with a gorgeous makeup palette. We are so in love right now…

2 GREAT HAIRCUTS! Your Favorite?

Hmmm…should we go mid-length or short? The hair pros at Intermede Couleur & Creation in Paris, France, sent these two stunning looks from their new collection. We love both…now we really can’t decide, can you?

Whether your hair is long, medium or short, curly, wavy or straight—we’ve got a style perfect for you in our issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide, on newsstands now! Want to change it up? We have hundreds of ideas that will help you make that big decision about your new look for spring. So pick us up today before we’re sold out!

We appreciate your continued support and helping to keep it all going on!

Playing With Plaits

Braids, braids and more braids! Texture is always in style. For this look, mane was spilt in half and styled into volume-packed “bubble” braids, then woven into more intricate, tighter plaits on the ends, and finally, “knotted.” Styled by Maxine Glynn of The Salon by InStyle at JCPenney, Freehold, NJ.

Scarlet Fun

Julianne Hough went red this past month, and has been having all sorts of fun playing with her new mane hue and the changes in makeup and wardrobe that go with switching from blonde to red. “We had so much fun playing with this Brigitte Bardot inspired style and purple eyeshadow for The Night Before Pre-Oscar Party,” she shared of this look. “Isn’t it amazing that depending on the lighting and what I’m wearing my hair changes colors?! It’s awesome!! It’s funny, usually it takes us no time at all to do hair and makeup but we were all sort of just staring at the mirror like ‘What do we do? this is such a different look with your hair!’ Lol.”

Keep playing, Julianne–we love seeing the results!
