Red Velvet Vibes

This mesmerizing mane is red haute. Deep, dark roots blend into a rich, decadent ruby hue. Locks tumble past the shoulders in loose waves that are concentrated on the ends. Styled by Veronica Peraza, from JCPenney Salon in Paradise Valley, AZ.

One Great Look—Blonde Bombshell

Hair by Jennifer Correll Lyles
Hair Nation Salon and Spa, Lexington, KY

Nothing says glam like silken color, vivacious volume and effortless styling. Buttery blonde strands flow from a deeper base. Lightweight layers give the mane versatility and movement, and tons of volume is designed on top.

Faux Fab

Iggy Azalea is back on the music scene and trying out a ton of looks on Instagram. One of her most recent is this geometric bob snip. The blunt cut edges create a gorgeous line, while the deep side part is just perfection. Whether it’s a wig or the real thing (we’re thinking wig), we can’t help but admire it greatly.

Green With Envy

Lucy Hale looked incredible at last night’s Teen Choice Awards. Between her perfectly sleek bob, the green eye makeup and the ear jewelry (not to mention the BROWS), she had it all going on, and going on very well indeed. #hairinspo #beautyinspo

Hair is smoothed straight to cascade past the shoulders. Styled by Karishlane, of JCPenney Salon in Grand Rapids, MI.

One Great Look—Sassy Charm

Paul Mitchell Legacy

The Beauty Changes Lives Foundation will honor the late Paul Mitchell with the Legacy Award on Sunday, March 31, 2019, during the 7th annual Beauty Changes Lives Experience co-hosted by America’s Beauty Show and Pivot Point International. Mr. Mitchell’s son, Angus, will accept the award honoring his father’s legacy.

An icon in the world of hairstyling and fashion, Paul Mitchell revolutionized the art and science of hairdressing while transforming the way the world thinks about hair care. Long before “environmental stewardship” was a mainstream component of corporate social responsibility, Mr. Mitchell pioneered innovations that ranged from alternative energy systems, and cruelty-free product testing to natural ingredients, including the Hawaiian awapuhi wild ginger still used as a primary ingredient in Paul Mitchell products. In addition to his contributions that protected the planet and its people, Paul Mitchell was also an advocate for professional education, and his approach to professional education lives on in the JPMS schools.

Mr. Mitchell becomes the 7th recipient of the award, which recognizes an industry professional whose career defined a commitment to supporting and empowering the next generation of beauty and wellness professionals. Previous recipients include Horst Rechelbacher (2018), Sydell and Arnold Miller (2017), Howard Murad, MD (2016), Leo Passage (2015), Tippi Hedren (2013) and Vidal Sassoon (2012).

Legacy honorees are selected by directors of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation; a board representing some of the world’s leading beauty brands and influencers. “The Paul Mitchell brand represents the intersection of compassion and innovation – two elements that defined Paul Mitchell’s life and continue to be lived out by the company he founded,” said Lynelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. “We are humbled to honor his legacy.”

So Very Chic

The bob is one of the most versatile cuts a girl can wear. Need proof? Take a look at this very chic look on Vanessa Hudgens, designed by celebrity sylist Chad Wood. Volume on top, slicked over one ear, a subtle flip on the ends: it’s all perfection.

3 Great Bobs For Summer

Looking for a way to style up the hottest cut of the summer? Here are three great choices, courtesy of Jean Louis David in Paris, France…

ONE: Slicked back

TWO: Light & Piecey

THREE: Beachy Perfect

Desert Sunset

It’s a gorgeous color trend, courtesy of Eufora International. Shares stylist Philip Carreon, “It’s meant to look like the way the desert melts from one color to another.” Mission accomplished! To see the other beautiful looks in this collection, be sure to pick up the current issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide, at newsstands now (look for Jennifer Lopez and a fabulous shade or orange!).

Sunset Secrets

Wow any crowd with this sunset inspired bob. Hickory hair transitions into a yummy chocolate before turning into a vivid red and ending in a golden hue. The coif is snipped into a layered lob with curls throughout. Styled by Shannon Sinning, from JCPenney Salon in Grand Rapids, MI.

The new hot cut of the summer? The blunt bob. Khloe and Kim Kardashian did it, and now  Meghan Trainor has, too. The current trend is to wear it super sleek and straight, to show off the very straight edges. But we all know how much variety is the spice of life, so we’re looking forward to seeing how the stars change up the look…

One Great Look—Everyday Glamour

Hair by Leslie “SophistcatedEdge” Perea
Sophisticated Edge Studio INC., Huntsville, AL

Keep it simple and sophisticated with this easy to recreate mane. Dark-chocolate roots are lightened with touches of bright, caramel-blonde that are snipped into effortless layers that fall past the shoulders and are styled into bouncy curls.

Last night, two members of the Matrix Artistic Team won awards at the 2018 North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA). Congratulations to Michelle and Danielle, along with all of the other winners!

In the September issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide we invited several JCPenney Salon stylists to tell us what the trends are. We’re seeing lobs, volume, bright fashion colors, balayage, color melting, sombre, soft shades of pink, beautiful reds and layers! What are you wearing now? If you want a new look, check out JCPenney Salons and book your appointment. You will be glad you did!

Ooohhh…it’s that time when our issue will go off sale and our new one will go on Tuesday! Hope you were able to pick up our beautiful edition of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide featuring Carrie Underwood on the cover. If you haven’t, you missed tons of fabulous hair ideas, celebrity features, beauty product news and more! Unicorn Dreaming

These vibrant, iridescent tresses are a perfect example of the unicorn haircolor trend. Sorbet shades of blush, sapphire, lavender and pistachio are flawlessly blended throughout a chiffon base for a magnetic mane that will have all eyes on you. Styled Douglas Boyce, from The Salon by InStyle inside JCPenney in Ann Arbor, MI.

Back To Blonde!

After talking a walk on the red side, Julianne Hough is back to her trademark blonde, thanks to Nine Zero One stylist and co-owner Riawna Capri, who regularly styles up the actress/singer/dancer. This time around, Capri is dubbing the bright shade a “honeysuckle blonde,” which she created with Joico Blonde Life Lightening Powder and LumiShine haircolor. While we greatly admired the scarlet hue, we love seeing Julianne back as a blonde. Gorgeous!

One Great Look—Caramel Balayage

Hair by Krista Bernhardt
Illusion Unlimited Salon, Broadview Heights, OH

Simply delicious! A color makeover that combines a gorgeous caramel hue painted through a dark-brown base. Pretty waves finish the look beautifully.

The Blonde Life

Demi Lovato is blonde again! Mane pros Amber Maynard and Anthony Holguin at Nine Zero One Salon used Joico LumiShine new “DD” Crèmes and Joico Blonde Life Lightening Powder to create the singer’s hot new look, which included extensions. She looks amazing!

Another Great Summer Pony

Celeb stylist Jenny Cho created what she dubbed a “textured chignon pony” for Kristen Bell for a movie premiere. Like a chignon, but instead of capturing all the hair in the twist, the ends are left out at the bottom to form a ponytail. We think it’s adorable for summer.

Matrix SOCOLOR Cult Icon Fergie took the stage at the 2018 Feinstein Institute Summer Gala. She was seen debuting newly launched SOCOLOR Cult shades in “Red Hot,” “Orange Alert” and “Lucky Duck Yellow.”

Fergie’s vibrant new locks were styled by Matrix Celebrity Stylists George Papanikolas and Nick Stenson, with special help from the two grand prize winners of the Fergie X Matrix SOCOLOR Cult Social Media Contest, Eli Mancha and Amanda Stone. The contest asked hairstylists around the country to create and submit fun, flirty and fierce vibrant hair color looks for a chance to style Fergie and her dancers for the gala.

Fuchsia Feels

Who doesn’t love a flirty ponytail! This hot pink-tipped, brunette mane is the perfect night-out look. Several braids in front meet at the base of the crown and are pulled into a large pony with curls cascading down. So fun! Styled by Christopher Noble, from The Salon by InStyle inside JCPenney in Kansas City, KS.

Topknot Game

Here’s how you not only up, but win the topknot game: add braided detail. Celebrity stylist Dimitri Giannetos created this sassy look for singer Meghan Trainor. Every few inches, a section of hair is done in a basic plait, with all lengths being pulled to the top and twisted into classic big bun. It’s simple and cute.

One Great Look—Iced Mocha

Hair by Jacki Maher
Hair Parlour, Plano, TX

Who doesn’t love a stunning balayage with ombré style roots? A rich mocha base paired with vanilla foam throughout make this hairstyle a must-try. Loose, irresistible waves fall past the shoulders, and lengthy layers add glitz and glam.

4 Tips For Styling Thin Hair

The folks at Viviscal know that styling thin hair so it looks a little less thin is an art form. Here are four solid tips they’re offering up…

1.  For more volume, rough blow-dry damp hair upside down. Finish with a blast of cold air to seal cuticles and add shine to hair.

2.  Before styling your updo, use a large-barrel curling iron to add texture to fine hair.

3.  Lay the base for a more volumized look by applying Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir to wet or dry hair to help add lightweight body.

4.  Do hair pins fall out of your fine hair? Here’s an insider tip: spritz bobby pins with hairspray for a more lasting hold.

We just love some of the new gray looks coming out; so stunning! This cut, style and haircolor from our friends at Barberia Salon in California’s Bay area have been keeping clients beautiful for more than 30 years! We just received this stunning look from the salon and had to share. If you’re thinking of a change-up; this one might just be what the doctor ordered.

Pet Pampering!

Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, longtime tress tamer to the Kardashians, Jenners, Hadids and many other hot celebs, has added a pet shampoo to her product line Ouai.

Packed with ingredients including apple cider vinegar, aloe leaf juice and tamarind seed extract, plus the same signature scent that goes into the people products, the formula has a time-release technology that promises to effectively fight odors.

“We wanted to create a gentle shampoo that not only fought odor and cleaned, but also smelled good,” shares the stylist, who was inspired to create the product after spending time at Vanderpump Pets in Los Angeles, the store and non-profit foundation started by Lisa Vanderpump. 15 percent of all sales of the limited-edition shampoo will go toward Vanderpump Pets.

Dazzling ‘Do

A silken, rose-gold tinted mane, with pops of ivory and rosé, looks eye-catching in this modern-muse coif. A large, voluminous braid is styled down the center and hair on either side is smoothed down and adorned with golden bobby pins for a feisty, Mohawk shape. The remaining lengths flow straight down. Styled by Amber Kerkstra, of JCPenney Salon in Grand Rapids, MI.
