Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide is celebrating 39 glorious years of bringing you the latest hair and beauty trends and celebrity mane moments! We’ve compiled our favorite covers from each of our 39 years so you can take a look back with us. Farrah – 1979
Original Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett graced our cover in 1979 (above). Her sensual golden mane is voluminous, and still a statement style today.

RRR2

Diana – 1992
Princess Diana graced our cover in 1992 with her chic short cut. This trendsetting mane was all the rage back then.

Mistress Manes

Sultry, stunning and sassy, the ladies of Mistresses have returned for a second season. Dennis Parker, the show’s head stylist, sat down with Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide to dish on the show’s hair revelations. Get a sneak peek into the beautiful world of Savi, April, Karen and Josslyn.

RRRJes Macallan
Jes Macallan, who plays Josslyn Carver, wears her hair long and layered. “Josslyn is the free spirit of the group, which is shown in her looks,” explains Parker. “Lately we’ve been doing top knots and high ponytails.”

RRR1Alyssa Milano
Alyssa Milano, a.k.a. Savannah “Savi” Davis, flaunts gorgeous layered waves. “The cut is a layered, shattered bob,” shares Parker. “Savi has a lot of changes in her life so now she’s changed her look, too—she’s more sassy and edgy.”

RRR2Yunjin Kim
Yunjin plays psychiatrist Karen Kim. To keep her look professional yet playful, Parker gave her swept bangs for softness and adds soft, rounded edges to her straight hair. “She’s going to have a lot of fun looks this season,” says Parker.

RRR3Rochelle Aytes
As Mistresses’ April Malloy, Rochelle plays a mother and career woman who needs chic yet simple style.  “We gave her a beachy wave look that is soft and easy to maintain,” says Parker. The celebrity hair pro also occasionally gives April a side ponytail for a mane switch-up.

To see how Parker sculpts the strands of these fabulous ladies, pick up the October 2014 issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide where we give you the inside scoop, plus the low-down on what products to use to help you recreate the looks at home.

CHERYL BURKE

RRRExclusive! Exclusive!

When you pair one of Hollywood’s most in-demand hairstylists with one of primetime TV’s hottest stars, you get mane magic! That’s what happened when stylist to the stars George Papanikolas (who was recently named Matrix’s newest Celebrity Hairstylist) created sizzling hairstyles for Dancing With The Stars beauty Cheryl Burke for an exclusive Sophisticate’s photo shoot. We’ve got your behind-the-scenes look right here…

RRR1Simply Divine

“This was my favorite look! I love it because I would love to be able to style my own hair like that every single night when I go out,” Cheryl says about this sassy silhouette. To get the look, George added extensions for fullness and created softer curls, which he then teased for a rocker-girl look.

RRR2

Going Natural

Cheryl showed off her natural beauty with this subtle, chic coif. “I love [the softer style] because it’s rare that I don’t get to wear a lot of makeup, especially on Dancing With The Stars where I’m always wearing makeup and my hair is fully done,” says the dance pro. “It’s nice to have a natural look…and you get to see my freckles!”

Want to see more looks from the shoot with Cheryl and George, plus find out what she revealed in our exclusive interview? Pick up the June 2014 issue of Sophisticate’s on newsstands now where we also have exclusive interviews with Giuliana & Bill star Giuliana Rancic and The Goldbergs’ Hayley Orrantia, plus pages and pages of cool mane collections to inspire you for your next salon visit.
