Hi, I bought the Nov./Dec. 2011 edition because I saw Carrie Underwood featured on the cover and I enjoyed reading your interview with her. At first I thought, Carrie looks like she’s about 40 years old, because of all the white areas on her forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, and lower lip. Like those areas are overexposed from too much flash or sun, I don’t know. Maybe some airbrushing or something could have covered up those white-ed-out areas. She’s actually only 28 1/2 years old. Maybe it’s because she’s got a small dimple or laugh line by the left side of her mouth, and she’s wearing little or no eye liner and eye shadow. I like the cover photo of Carrie Underwood on the Sep. 2009 edition much better, because she looks so young, which I think is because of the even shading on her face, except for pink cheeks. Gall darn it, that Carrie Underwood is so smart or sensible. Maybe she gets it from being raised on a farm. She said if she had not won the American Idol singing contest, then she’d “probably be singing in church on Sunday, and at karaoke on Wednesday nights.” Not me. I was recently practising singing “All American Girl”, daily at home, starting with 15 minutes daily, then 30, 45 minutes, 1 hour, and finally 3 hours in one day. Maybe that’s excessive. I thought I was singing better each day. Then the next day I lost my voice. I’m never going to sing 3 hours in one day again. I’m slowly getting my voice back. At times like this, I laugh when I think how sensible Carrie Underwood is, compared to me. I’m 51.
Hi, Tim!
On the cover of the September 2009 issue, Carrie Underwood is wearing a very youthful makeup look with pink blush, baby pink lips and smokey eyes. Fast-forward to 2011, and the super successful (and married!) country star is wearing a more mature makeup look with a deep pink lip and natural eyeshadow on the cover of our current issue. The young singer wears a variety of makeup styles and we think she always looks amazing. Thanks for being a fan of Sophisticate’s!
What issue is it that will feature the stylists from Jerseylicious and when will it be coming out? My daughter is the girl whose hair Tracy cut!!!
Hi, Lisa!
Our October issue hits the racks as we speak—featuring the lovely Selena Gomez on our cover. The Jerseylicious feature is one not to be missed!
I bought the March 2011 Magazine and the hairstyle i lost the picture of the the hairsyle that i liked after i cut out. It was in the clip and snip section. it should be on page 93 bottom right or page 94 bottom left… it was a short layered style… Any suggestions?
Thank You,
Dawn
Hi, Dawn!
Sorry we can’t help you out, but if you take a look at the current issue on newsstands now (the one with Lauren Conrad on the cover!), there are many fabulous short, layered haircuts featured inside—we think you’ll like them just as much!
Hi,
I purchased your magazine the first week of April when I returned to the states from an assignment overseas in Japan, and was looking forward to getting my hair done like one of the photos. After getting to where I was going and moving into our home, I misplaced the magazine, and when I looked at this month’s issue it was nowhere in there. It is a short blonde hair cut, with a dark brown or black chunk on the side and under bangs, and it came out of an institute in OH listed multiple times in the issue in the clip n snip section. Is there any way to get the photo I am trying to find, and if so, HOW? Thanks! Julie
Hi, Julie!
The photo appeared in our August issue, which is now off sale. However, there are a few looks in the current issue that show a similar cut. Try bringing another photo to your stylist, but explain exactly how you want your haircolor to look. A trained salon professional may be able to help you achieve the shade combo you want—and you may even find a totally new look that’s been personalized just for you!
I always love the pictures of hairstyles in your magazine but would really like to see more than just the front or side of a hairstyle. To really judge whether a hairstyle will work for me I usually need to see it from every angle, front, back, and sides. I usually end up taking multiple pictures to my stylist, one for the bangs, one for the back, and still others for the way I want the sides to look. It would be nice to see more angles of hairstyles, especially the short dos that really need to be customized. Keep up the great work! Oh, and if you ever need a writer let me know!
Thanks for the suggestion, Jean! We try to feature all angles of a given hairstyle as often as we can. But because there are so many great looks out there, we also try to feature as many looks as possible so all women with all kinds of tastes can find the look they want.
How do I get a copy of the August issue
Hi, Ana!
We’re sorry, we don’t sell back issues. Anything in particular you were interested in?
Like Catherine who wrote on May 27, 2011, I want to know how to get a back issue. I need the November 2010 issue. Can anyone help me?
Hi, Sandra!
Once an issue of Sophisticate’s sells out, it’s gone. The best way to make sure you get every issue is to subscribe and have it delivered to your front door! Click on the Subscribe button at the bottom of the lefthand column to subscribe today.
Check your local library. If they do not have it available ask them to get a subscription!
Maybe a store that carries used books and used magazines might have a back issue you’re looking for.
how can I get a copy of a past issue?
Hi, Catherine!
We do not have back issues. The best way to keep track of every issue of Sophisticate’s is to subscribe and have it delivered right to you! Click on the Subscribe button at the bottom of the lefthand column to subscribe today.

I just picked up my copy of your June issue and I have a couple of comments. First, I LOVE that you are featuring Scream 4 and Real Housewives (Gretchen Rossi). It’s so wonderful how you feature all kinds of celebrities. Also, I love the Soap Star Style! Katherine Kelly Lang was such a good piece. Please tell whoever wrote that…kudos! I don’t know how you choose the features but you definitely have a big fan in me!!!

Hi I was wondering can the mag have a back and a side view of the hairstyle. When I do take the mag into my stylist we have to gues on how the back is cut or not. I love the magazine keep up the good work. Love the articles and tips. Stacy Jean Clearwater, FLA
Hi, Stacy!
Thanks for the suggestion! Check out our current issue with Jennifer Lopez on the cover. In many features, the captions corresponding to the hairstyles give you an idea of how the hair has been cut/styled! Although you may not see a photo of every angle of each look, we work hard to get you the information you need to know how to achieve the style.
hey stacy I am a hairstylist and I’m pretty good at doing the style without seeing the back of it from the pictures in the magazine if you need a hairstylist I can help. If you’re in california. Just a heads up.
-Tatyana T.
I just purchased your magazine and searched the products and websites for the Holiday Glamapalooza giveaways, the date on this magazine is Feb. 2011, so when did the giveaways date actually start? I have not been successful at tracking any information at several wbsite attempts. Can you give me the low down on how these contests/giveaways actually start…November2010?
Hi, Kathy!
We begin accepting coupons for the giveaways on the day each issue of Sophisticate’s goes on sale! The best way to know when a new issue goes on sale is to subscribe and have it delivered right to your doorstep. Make sure to mail your coupon right away, as supplies are limited and awarded on a first come first serve basis. Good luck!
