A vibrant golden hue is the perfect complement to this cropped coif full of layered coils. Volume is infused at the crown and spirals are enhanced by blow-drying hair with a diffuser. A curling iron helps to create a extra-tight ringlets and the style is finished with a sleek, brow-brushing fringe.

Try on the reverse ombre haircolor trend and show off a mixture of blonde shades by creating curvy layers throughout the crown. Use small hot rollers to fashion cool curls and grab a flat iron to coax the extra-short pieces into a curved shape. Tousle hair with your fingers and finish with a touch of hairspray.

Play your best style game and model a style that’s worthy of the red carpet. Prep damp strands with a bit of curl cream and diffuse curls. Once hair is dry, tousle strands with your fingers and let your curls run wild! Runaway tendrils frame the face and form a faux bang that brushes the forehead.

MIRANDA COSGROVE
MIRANDA COSGROVE first caught our attention wearing sleek strands in her first feature film, School Of Rock, but as the iCarly star grew up she has embraced her natural texture and opted to show off beautiful beachy waves. Model your hairstyle after Miranda’s by using a combo of leave-in conditioner and curl-enhancing products to maintain your curly mane. To style, blow-dry hair with a round brush to shape layers and make them smooth. Then use a large curling iron to craft big, loose waves. Finish with a light-hold hairspray for an all-day (and night!) hold.

  1. Hanna says:

    Hi!
I have what people call fine hair. I never straighten it because its naturally straight. It doesn’t frizz up. I can’t stand how flat it is! I have tried curling irons, the curls never stay? Any tips on giving my hair a little volume and curls?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Hanna,
Try using a volumizing shampoo when you wash your hair. Before you dry it, put in a dime-sized amount of mousse and blow-dry your hair upside down to pump up the volume. For curls, wrap your hair around the barrel of the curling iron and make sure you spritz hairspray on each individual curl after you curl your hair. Happy styling!

  2. Caitlyn says:

Hi! My hair is shoulder length, Very thin, and does not hold curls and I really want It curly but i don’t want it permed, What should i do??
    Thanks!

  3. Riley says:

Hey, i love wavy/ curly hair. i have naturally wavy hair but its puffy and frizzy whenever i scrunch it and whenever i curl it, it’s always tight curls. i just want a beachy wavy look without frizz, how can i get that?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Riley!
After shampooing and conditioning your hair, gently remove excess water from wet strands to remove some of the weight from your hair and encourage waves. Apply a lightweight mousse to your hair to help shape and define your natural wave pattern. Then blow-dry strands using a diffuser attachment. The keys to a frizz-free day are applying product to damp hair and to avoid fussing with your hair too much.

  4. Sarah says:

    Hello
I have kind of thick shoulder-length hair that is naturaly wavey and puffy. I usualy straighten my hair, but now I like curls. What are some ways to wear my hair curly? Sometimes I scrunch my hair with some mousse but it still can look puffy. I can curl it, but are there any other good ways to get curls beside a perm?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Sarah!
Check out the September issue! We think you’ll like the feature called “How To Get Babetastic Body.” You’ll find everything from styling tips to product recommendations so you can keep your curls fresh and bouncy without frizz!

  5. Faith says:

I have long, wavy, blonde hair that reaches about halfway down my back. It’s kind of dry, and I would like to get a short snip, but I’m a little nervous that it will shrink up and I’ll get the Shirley Temple look. Any tips? Ideas of how short I should get it cut? (I was thinking maybe shoulder-length shag type idea.)
    Thanks!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Faith!
If your hair is only wavy at the long length, it may not go all “Shirley Temple” on you if you were to cut it up to your collar bone/shoulder length and put some fun layers into it. A lot of women who have hung onto extra long hair for a long time have been looking to go a little shorter and the changes have been outstanding. Ask your stylist about snipping some face-framing layers and possibly a few highlights around the face.

  6. Michelle says:

i have medium length kinda fine blonde hair, goes about half way down my back. my hair is very frizzy so no matter what i do to it i have to straighten it first, i love to straighten it and leave it down but that gets old. i CAN NOT curl my hair for nothing in this world! the curl will not hold! ive tried curling it with a straightner & scrunching it but nothing works! any tips?!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

  7. Marissa says:

I have a really hard time curling my hair. I want spiral curls like all the celebs have, but it never stays the way I want it. Any tips to keep my hair curly? It’s not extremely straight and has some wave to it. I also have tons of hair!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Marissa!
Have you picked up your copy of the June/July issue with Lea Michele on the cover? Inside, you’ll find advice on how to make your curls last…just flip to the article titled “Your Biggest Hair Issues.”

  8. Nicole says:

I have really long, straight blonde hair. I look to curl it often, but can never get the cute curls to stay more than an hour!!! Will I have better luck with hot rollers or a curling iron? And also, what product can I put in it to keep the curls bouncy, and not heavy (my hair is relatively thin) Thanks!!!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Nicole!
It’s not impossible to form spiral curls on fine/straight hair, but it can be difficult. Try applying mousse to your hair when it’s damp, divide hair into sections and set strands on plastic rollers. Allow your hair to air-dry into shapely curls, then gently remove the rollers, finger-style your hair (don’t brush it!) and mist hairspray.

  9. Melinda says:

    Hey
I have thick short (to my shoulders) curly hair but it has a big frizz poof to it and I go and get my hair cut but nobody can seem to get the poof gone and I hate. So wat do I do for it to go away?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Melinda!
Try to avoid using styling products (like serums and hairsprays) that contain water. Instead, opt for a leave-in conditioner when you blow-dry your hair to help keep the curls intact and protect your hair from the elements. As for finishing products, go for aerosol hairsprays, which tend to be dryer, as opposed to spritzes that can wet the hair.

  10. Caylin says:

    Hiya
I have long brown hair ( it goes to the top of my tummy) it’s straight but has waves in it. I straighten my hair all the time but I want to curl it but using curlers or a curling iron takes to long and I don’t want a perm cuz I lime to straighten my hair. So wat would I do that’s fast and easy and I can stl straighten my hair when I want to?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Caylin!
If your hair has natural waves, try enhancing them by adding a bit of product to damp hair and developing a blow-dry routine. When your hair is wet, apply a dab of mousse to your strands and work the product throughout the hair thoroughly. Scrunch your hair with your fingers as you blow-dry using a diffuser attachment. Once your hair dries, mist a bit of hairspray for hold.
