Cyndi Lauper Takes A Country Detour!

cyndi lauperSophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide was thrilled to chat a bit, recently, with music/hair icon Cyndi Lauper. The Grammy, Emmy and Tony-winning singer-songwriter is currently touring with her new country-flavored album, Detour (Sire Records), that showcases the star’s voice on country classics. “I had been in a rockabilly band called ‘Blue Angel’ and I cut my teeth listening to artists like Wanda Jackson, Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton when she first came out, because even though they were  country, they had that rock ‘n roll edge,” Lauper explains. “You know, it’s the bucket list thing!”

After three decades, artistic freedom is still key to the singer. “You want to grow as an artist, be a great singer, a great writer and be great at what you craft. As you get older you just grow, you don’t stop growing. I still take vocal lessons three times a week. I look at my life work as constantly evolving. As a singer we are athletes and if you don’t keep yourself in an athletic form, it will be more difficult as you get older—because you need to be strong: a strong body and a strong voice.”

The really big question? Will she still have pink hair on tour? Oh yeah! “I thought pink looked good on me…that’s the bottom line!” Will Lauper keep her hair pink for the whole tour? Maybe. “I don’t know, I have a wig of blue.”

Hmmmm….we can hardly wait to see!

So check out Cyndi’s tour schedule and try and catch her. Trust us—it will be one show you will never forget, we guarantee!
