Mostly Ghostly 3: One Night in Doom House is out—just in time for Halloween! Tell us about your role.
I play Cammie, who is the girlfriend of Max Doyle played by Corey Fogelmanis. Cammie is a dancer, which is fun for me because I’m a dancer and I get to do a big dance number in it. She has this really strong heart and strong independent spirit that I love and really connect with. Her and Max go through some troubles in the end of their relationship but they work it out and really try to get over it. She becomes a lot more open-minded during the movie, and that was a really cool thing to watch and see. It was a blast playing her, the whole cast was fun and I think the movie turned out great.
And, of course, there’s Disney XD’s Gamer’s Guide To Pretty Much Everything…for those of us not in the know, what’s the series about?
Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything follows four teenage gamers. We basically are a professional gaming squad, we are a team and we travel around and compete in different gaming tournaments. But we also still go to high school and live normal lives so it’s a lot of fun; there are a lot of crazy things that go on. It stars me, Cameron Boyce as Conor, Felix Avitia as Franklin and Murray Wyatt Rundus as Wendell Ruckus, so it’s three boys and me. But it’s a ton of fun and we’ve had a blast making the show.
How is it acting out as the only girl in this gaming squad?
It’s a lot of fun! I love getting to represent the girl gamers because they’re such an underrepresented group right now. It’s super cool to kind of be their voice. I also have a blast with the boys so I love them to death and we just have so much fun all the time.
What are you most excited for in season two?
[For] the fans to see our developing relationships on the show. We’ve become a lot closer as friends and we become a tighter group and you see a little more depth to each character, especially Ashley. She grows up a lot in season two. She goes through a lot of maturing so it was a really exciting season for us to shoot and for me to get explore Ashley’s character.
How is your character Ashley’s hair styled for the show?
Ashley’s hair is a little bit more curl than I usually do mine. They just use a curling iron as a wand and she does a lot of curls; it takes her maybe 45 minutes every day. It’s lots of curls, hair spray and styling cremes to keep it in place. My hair can be a lot, it can be frizzy and stuff, so it’s definitely a lot of work for them. They do a good job making sure it looks good.
So you wear your hair curlier on the show?
Yeah I wear it a little wavier, they do it slightly curlier. It works for Ashley, and it’s her signature style, she pretty much just wears it down. Sometimes she might clip the front back, but it’s pretty rare she puts it up.
What’s your favorite hairstyle when you’re going out or going to an event?
Probably just down and wavy, pretty simple. I don’t do too many crazy things with my hair. I’ve been doing braids more recently, which I kind of like but typically, I just wear it nice and wavy.
How long is your hair?
It’s pretty long, almost waist length, but not quite. I have a lot of layers.
What is your natural color and texture?
Brown, like a medium brown I would say. I have blonde highlights in it. I have a lot of hair, it’s pretty thick. My number one hair problem is frizz, it gets really crazy!
Why did you decide to go blonde?
When I was younger I had more natural highlights and as I got older, they started to fade so I just decided I wanted to be blonde. I’ve been blonde for a lot of years now. I’ve considered going dark again, but I do like my blonde. [I get my hair colored] every six to eight weeks.
Do you have a salon or hairdresser that you regularly go to?
I go to Sabrina Silvers at Dr. Miller Hair Lounge in L.A.
Can you walk us through your daily haircare regimen?
I wash my hair pretty much every day. I know a lot of girls don’t, but my hair gets so knotted and crazy if I don’t at least condition it; sometimes I don’t shampoo it. I vary between five different shampoos and conditioners because whenever my hair gets used to something, it’s not great for it. I shampoo and condition it every day, and I let it air dry overnight and then in the morning I might curl it or throw it up. Once a week I do a coconut oil hair mask, I cover my hair in coconut oil and cover it with a processing mask and let it sit for an hour.
Do you use any other products?
Sometimes I use a detangling spray, it’s kind of a leave-in spray. I change that around a lot too. The one I’ve been using recently is by Matrix maybe. I usually have to have something to help me get the knots out after, but usually if it’s well-conditioned I don’t need too much in there. I really like Moroccanoil hair spray. I’m not too crazy about one particular [kind], I change that around too.
What is the styling tool you use the most?
It is a one-inch curling iron from Hot Tools, it’s ceramic. I don’t use the clip on it, sometimes I do if I want bigger curls. It just depends what vibe I’m going for.
Do you like playing around with makeup at all?
It really depends for me. I do like trying to mess around with makeup. It’s very much a learned skill for me, makeup took me a while to learn how to do properly and well. If I’m going to an event I like to watch a YouTube tutorial and see if I can copy their beautiful eyeshadow creation.
What is your favorite feature to play up?
Probably my eyes or brows; I have to have my brows nice.
If we took a look inside your makeup bag, what are five products that we would find?
Urban Decay Naked Palette for eyeshadow; I use both either Naked 3 or 2. You would find Bare Minerals powder-based foundation. I really love that because it’s light and not too heavy on my face, it’s great. Urban Decay mascara and MAC lipstick, too, my go-to color right now is Velvet Teddy. I change my lipsticks a lot, but MAC will always be my absolute favorite lipstick. I have a Lancome Artliner Eyeliner. Eyeliner is such a struggle for me and that one I find pretty easy to use.
What message about beauty do you want to provide for your fans?
Beauty is confidence and I hope my fans know that it’s not about your hair, it’s not about your makeup, it’s not about what is “in” or supposedly not “in.” It’s about what you feel confident in and your confidence in yourself is beauty to me. If you love how you look and you feel really good, then that’s the key.
