  1. Suzy says:

I have fine, thin hair that is just below my shoulders right now and I want something that will be easy to fix and is manageable because now my hair just falls flat after I fix it in the mornings. Thanks

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Suzy,
How long is your hair? Have you ever considered asking your stylist for layers? Layers may help give your style a little bounce and movement. Check out the March issue of Sophisticate’s for style inspiration and head to the salon for a consultation on your new look.

  2. ale says:

    hi

i wanted to ask what would u recommend for curly hair for it to be easier me to straighten it faster and also wat would a good look or hair for a girl with lots cheecks

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Ale,
We think you’ll like some of the features in the February issue of Sophisticate’s, including “Sophisticate’s Master Class: Styling Tools” and “How To Get…Frizz-Free Strands.” Another great secret many stylists recommend is using a great leave-in conditioner for curly hair. Head to your local beauty supply store and ask the sales clerk to help you find one!

  3. Namra says:

I want to see the current Selena Gomez Article!! Plzzz ask her out her hair secret!! I am 14 and when I brush my hair there is some kinda electricity produced in them!! And where can we browse previous articles! !plzz help!!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Namra,
We’re sorry you missed the October 2011 issue of Sophisticate’s featuring cover girl Selena Gomez. Here’s one of the mane tips shared by the actress/singer: “I have a lot of hair. The key is to not wash your hair every single day. I wash it two or three times a week.”

  4. johna winfrey says:

define round layers please. im afraid my stylist will not understand the term

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Johna,
We’re consulting with our pros and will provide you with an expert answer soon!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi Johna,
Round layers can be defined as layers that essentially follow the curvature of the head and can be any length as determined by the stylist and client. Round layers are most likely found in short to medium length cuts, and this technique can be used to create interesting volume and shape.

  5. Teresa says:

I was just wondering if any one has used wen products.? I have been for a month now, I like the way it makes my hair look and feel. But I do not think it cleans my scalp very well. It is also expensive, if used the way it should it would prolly take 2 bottles a month. Just wondering what every one else thinks of the products. thanks Teresa

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Teresa!
We think you’ll love the “Especially For You” feature, which appears in every issue of Sophisticate’s. You will find product recommendations there and also in the Products To Try section of our website! Check it out by clicking on the tab above.

  6. Jessica says:

Hi, im about to give birth to my 2nd child any day now and I know once I do, the drop in hormones will make my hair start falling out, plus im not gonna have a lot of time for blow drying and styling. My hair is just past my shoulders and I want to go shorter, but no shorter than chin length (at least in front). I’ve seen a few hairstyles that I really like but half the time when I pick a style out from a magazine, it never ends up looking like the picture. My ears stick out a little so I want a versatile style that will still cover them if I want to. Any suggestions? My hair is sort of fine with a naturally wavy texture, but I don’t mind using my flat iron for a more sleek look so it doesn’t look as frizzy.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Jessica!
Have you seen the “At Home Styling Guide” in every issue of Sophisticate’s? Pick up a copy of the February 2012 issue (the one with Rachel Bilson on the cover!) and flip to the back of the magazine to find this regular feature. You’ll find detailed instructions on how to style your hair and there are some great chin-length styles we think you’ll love!

  7. BW says:

Hi, I need some advice. I’m in my early twenties and I always liked the Rachel haircut worn by Jennifer Aniston, but I’m afraid it may be outdated. I have a heart shaped face and wavy hair, what should I ask for if I want to get a haircut like the Rachel that’s up to date?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, BW!
“The Rachel” haircut is a timeless classic. It’s a short bob with layers, which give you plenty of style versatility to wear the look sleek or curly. We think you’ll love similar short looks featured in Sophisticate’s special 33rd Anniversary issue—on sale now—and draw some great inspiration from the hairstyles shown in them magazine.

  8. alexandra rosen says:

    Hi,
My hair is kind of at a weird length right now. its not quite long but it isnt quite a lob. Also I have old streaks throughout my hair and the base color looks like brass. I’m not sure what to do. My biggest problem is the texture. its not quite wavy and not straight. It just looks…boring basically. Please help?
    Alex

  10. Patty says:

Hi! I am 37 with 2 kids. I am looking for a trendy, shorter cut with bangs that doesn’t look so dull and “mommyish”, but I need a low maintenance style for my busy life! (my face is oval and currently my hair is to my shoulders)Thanks for your help!!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Patty!
We’re checking with our experts and we’ll have an answer for you soon. In the mean time, peruse the pages of Sophisticate’s October issue (the one with Selena Gomez on the cover!) to look for a style you like.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Patty!
I have been handling a lot of similar requests in my salon lately from women who want a fun, flirty style that is easy and doesn’t look like the rest of the moms in the carpool. The most popular look is a short, soft layered cut with a disconnected fringe (like Katie Holmes) that is playful, sexy and easy to style and maintain. Ask your stylist if he/she thinks this style would work for you.

  11. Kacey says:

    Hi,
i have long medium-thick curly frizzy dry hair and I’ve used so many different shampoos and conditioner… but none really worked on my hair, some of my friends told me i should use Aussie shampoo and deeep conditioner do you think it’s a good product and will work on my hair??? if not please tell me what product should i use that isn’t very pricey:)

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Kacey!
We’re checking with our experts—visit soon!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Kacey!
Just using a shampoo and conditioner may not give you the help you’re looking for. There are some amazing smoothing systems available that can do wonders for hair like yours. Some of the systems that salons offer today can give you relief from the frizziness for up to three months at a time, so try consulting with your salon pro.

  12. Rosemary Sheehan says:

I am going to color my hair light auburn. What shampoo would help to keep the color from fading? I am changing from amber brown.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Rosemary!
You can always ask your colorist for specific product recommendations, but when you’re shopping at the store, look for a shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair. Look for the words “color-treated hair” directly on the bottle. Also, if the bottle says “sulfate-free,” you may want to try that shampoo/conditioner, as well.

  13. Brittany says:

Hi, my hair is like medium length and it’s damaged. I was wondering how I can get my hair to grow longer even though it’s damaged.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Brittany!
One way to disguise damage is to use products that create shine and give the appearance of healthy hair. To help rebuild your main, use conditioner with protein or keratin. Leave-in conditioners coat the hair and make it feel thicker. You can also wear clip-in extensions to disguise breakage while you wait for your hair to grow fuller and longer.
