Kristen’s Hacker-Chic Gala Look

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 02: Actress Kristen Stewart attends the "Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology" Costume Institute Gala at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 2, 2016 in New York City. (Photo by Larry Busacca/Getty Images)

Trends and edgy looks were all the rage last night at the Met Gala Ball, with the theme “Manus x Machina” leading everyone in a bold direction–Kristen Stewart included. Hairdresser Adir Abergel, for Pai-Shau, was inspired by the star’s dramatic black-silver Chanel dress, shaded with memories of his first encounter with the edgy technology of the late ’80s.

Describes Pai-Shau, “The look was raw and deconstructed. Her striking hair color was bleached white with contrasting deep silver-grey roots, had a smoothed, glossed-out swirl of top hair, and was accented by textured knots and a defined side braid. The style was a tech-savvy and progressive take on the punk hacker-chic styles of the era.”

Here’s how Abergel crafterd Kristen’s mane look…

“I primed and hydrated Kristen’s just-bleached hair so the texture was smooth, shiny and frizz-free–almost like virgin hair–so it was easier to style.”

“I used a handful of Pai-Shau Royal Abundance Mousse to give body and create soft structure, and worked it from roots to mid-length. I then blow-dried the hair using a diffuser to lock in the deconstructed texture.”

“Once the hair was dry and ready to be thrown up, I took the top sections, made knotted twists and secured them with hairpins. I continued all the way around and then made a tight divided braid across the side of her head to define and anchor the look.”
