  1. Moira says:

Hey, Okay so I have super THICK and FRIZZY hair. I’ve been getting my hair cut based off of pictures from your magazine, but the problem is, after the first day it looks terrible on me because my hair becomes too frizzy or too thick for the hair style. Do you know of any great, honestly working products that can help tame my frizz and that can help thick hair? (Also usually i will put my hair up in a bun when its wet so that i can have wavy hair-my hair is slightly wavy naturally but the bun helps create more waves) so i wan the product to work on think, frizzy, wavy hair. pleaseeee help me.

    • Bonnie L. Krueger, Editor-in-Chief says:

Try Redken’s Smooth Down Heat Glide Protective Soother…we heard it works well! Let us know…

  2. Kylie says:

Also, my hiar is dark brown, but alot of people mistake it for being the color black. I have natural red and blonde highlights, but they are only a little noticable. I don’t want to get blonde highlights or lighter brown highlight or color my hiar or dye it or anything like that. i was wondering what could i do to make my hair look light brown and have my red and blonde highlights POP OUT???

    • Kylie says:

p.s my red highlights aren’t noticable AT ALL, but my blonde highlights are sorta noticable.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Kylie,
Thank you for stopping by the Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide website! When it comes to curly hair, you’ve noticed that a slight hint of moisture makes your curls return to their natural state. Have you tried washing your hair less than five times a week? A trick a lot of hairstylists tell clients is that day-old hair holds a style better. So if you’ve straightened your hair, try not to wash it for a day or two and see how the style holds up! With your haircolor, you may find the summer sun helps bring out your natural highlights. Just make sure to keep cool and protect your skin with sunscreen, too, when you spend time outdoors!

  3. Kylie says:

I know this is going to sound CRAZY, but Im eleven years old and I have naturally curly hair, because Im half black and white. I straighten out my hair everyday. I only wash my hair 5 times a week. After its all straighten out, if i get it wet it turns straight to its curly-ringlet self. I was wondering ( without getting a perm MY MOM WILL NOT ALLOW!! :( )If there is any PRODUCT not straightener that will help my hair stay just A LITTLE straight whenever it gets wet and a product that will help my hair get straighter and sraighter everytime i use it so after a few washes my hair won’t be so curly. I dont want a new straightener, because i lve the one i have, and my mom won’t buy me another one. PLEASE HELP ME OUT BEFORE I GO CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hannah says:

I love my long hair! I have layers on the bottom and my bangs are really long (they used to be across my forehead). The only thing wrong with it is that it’s REALLY thin. I can’t style it in any cute ways because it will fall out. I also love curly hair. My mom has curly hair but I have flat thin hair like my dad. I really want to curl my hair but i’ve tried evrything. What do you recommend?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Hannah,
You’re in luck! The August issue of Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide, with Julianne Hough on the cover, is now on sale and we have not one, but two features to help you. “How To Get Sexy Summer Hair” and “Curls And Texture” give you all the details on getting great texture

  5. Shannara says:

Hi, I love your magazine! My hair is getting fairly long, I colour it every few months and it over all pretty healthy. I love my hair curled but dont have the time, does a perm damage hair very badly?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Shannara,
We are consulting with our mane pros…visit soon!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Frank and Belinda Gambuzza says:

      Hi Shannara,
Because you already receive color services, we recommend that you go for a perm consultation so that your stylist can determine if your hair is too chemically processed to receive a perm. Because a perm is a chemical process, the judgment whether to “go for it” or not needs to be determined on a individual basis. Also, keep in mind that a perm will make your hair appear much shorter and will give you an even, smaller curl pattern when most people are looking to wear a more loose, natural and tousled curl that you can only achieve with an iron or medium and/or large hot rollers. Good luck with your decision, make sure it’s suitable for you and have fun with it!

  6. Michelle says:

Hi, First off, I love your magazine, it has given me many different hairstyles over the years…

I’m growing my hair out now, and I was looking at the Nov./Dec 2010 issue, and I fell in love with Aly Michalka’s hair in the magazine, the picture of her “Hellcats” hair…and I was wondering how exactly do I go about styling my hair to look like hers?

    Thank you so much!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Michelle,
In our exclusive interview with Aly Michalka, she told us how she likes to style her hair! “I use a medium curling iron to curl it in different directions,” she says. “I curl the hair around my face then away from my face, and I flip it upside down to give it a wavy, beach look.”

  7. Crystal says:

I have long hair, like really long, like almost to my waist. Are there any suggestions for styling it? I don’t want to lose length, but I do want to gain some style with it. Any suggestions would be awesome

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi Crystal,
Have you tried wearing updos or accessories? A simple headband or clip can add a lot of flair to your look. You may also want to try a long braid, which is a hot trend on the red carpet.

  8. Brittany says:

What possible ways can you get your hair to grow faster? I heard that you can eat a lot of foods with protein to make your hair to grow faster. Is that true?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Brittany!
Hair growth takes time and patience. The truth is, taking good care of your hair (washing/conditioning it properly, avoiding too much heat, etc.) and sticking to a healthy diet helps to keep your hair healthy, which in turn helps it grow.

  9. Riley says:

Hi! i have medium-long hair, dark brown and i straighten it everyday but i would love a beachy look to my hair. when i scrunch my hair and let it air dry it can go very frizzy though so i was considering a soft perm? any thoughts?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Riley!
Try using a diffuser to blow-dry your curls while scrunching hair with your fingers. When you’re done, use a curling iron or rollers to enhance the waves. The trick with the curling iron is to wrap your hair around the barrel instead of clipping it with the clamp. Doing this helps to create the really beachy look! Talk to your stylist for some more pointers. Ask for a complete hair/scalp analysis and let him/her know you’re thinking of getting a perm.

  10. maria says:

is there any ways for hair to grow faster? people say to put it in a tight ponytail, but i’d like to know from you if it actually works? or if there’s another way??

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Maria!
We’re checking with our hair pros and we’ll have an answer for you soon!

  11. maria says:

hey, my hair is naturally wavy, like an afro and it’s not a pretty curl. i straighten it everytime i shower, but is there any shampoos or anything that can straighten withought ironing it, because i don’t wanna damage my hair. but at the same time, i dont want my curly haaair.?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Maria!
While shampoo won’t actually straighten your curly hair, there are products you can use to protect your hair from the heat of the flat iron. A leave-in conditioner makes your hair easier to comb through and gives your hair extra moisture to help prevent dryness and breakage. You may also want to look for a flat iron with ceramic plates, which provide effortless gliding and prevent pinching or pulling the hair. Happy styling!

  12. Bonita Apatang says:

      Hi, Claire!
The wonderful thing about hair today is that you do not have to be satisfied with only the hair you were born with. For what you are describing there are a great many options in extensions today and there are a wide number of price ranges that come with that. Find a qualified extensions expert in your area and get a consultation. Stylists can do amazing things with hair extensions!

  15. Rachel says:

I want to get a perm before school starts. My hair is dark brown, with bangs, and at least 3-5 inches below my shoulders. I would like to go with a Selena Gomez look, but there are so many choices. How can I get her hairstyles when I don’t know how to apply them to my own hair? Where can I get great products that will keep the way I want it (Walmart, salon etc.)?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Rachel!
We’re working on an answer for you—stay tuned!

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Rachel!
Great idea to get a soft perm! A perm may help you gain versatility in your styling. If your hair is naturally straight, a soft body type perm will enable you to style your hair in many different ways. The important thing here is that you must know that you need to style your hair to change it up. Don’t rely on the perm itself to be the style, as it is only part of the foundation that gives you these looks. The best way to learn how to style the hair and what to use product wise is to visit a professional salon in your area. The stylists there should be able to do a complete needs analysis for you to determine what type of perm and haircut is best for your desired results, as well as educate you on the proper products and their use.

(PS…Keep your eyes open for our new issue on sale the first week in August, you will have a pleasant surprise!)

  16. kelsey says:

I wanna get a perm so I don’t have to do my hair everyday is this a good idea? And do I have to use and products on it? What’s the best kind of perm to get wavy or curly and how do I get my hairstylist to do it the way I want?

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Kelsey!
We’re checking with our experts and will get back to you soon.

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide and Daniel Keane says:

      Hi, Kelsey!
Perms are a wonderful tool for giving your hair a change, but some stylists won’t recommend getting one if you expect the perm to BE the style and not have to do anything to the hair. A modern perm will give your hair the body and hold you are seeking, but you should also take care of the hair and maintain the perm. Use leave-in conditioner and curl-enhancing products if you want to wear the curl “natural.” If you communicate your desires for your curl to your haircare professional, this could be a fun change for you!

  17. kelsey says:

I absolutely live kourtney kardashians curly and wavy log hair styles how can I get my hair like that and what products are the best to use? Is there a website I can look off of for how to do her tutorials?!
    thanks so much
    kelsey

  20. Marlene says:

I have long hair, and i love it! I have layers and straight bangs. Sometimes my hair can get wavy and I want to straighten it or curl it, but my hair is thick and healthy and i dont want to damage it!!…Would u suggest me to use a blow dryer or flat/curling iron? i feel like if i start using a blow dryer or flat/curling iron i will attach to it! then a lot of heat would damage my hair :(

    • Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide says:

      Hi, Marlene!
The only way heat styling is damaging to your hair is if you do it too much. It’s all about moderation. Try using a flat iron or blow-drying your hair every couple of days. And as long as you stick to a regular cleansing and conditioning routine, you’ll be able to maintain the health of your hair.

    • Deanna says:

      Hi Marlene!
Another great way is to use a straightening cream with heat protector. I found mine at a popular shop. Look around, hope this helped!
