Because a perm is a chemical process, the judgment whether to "go for it" or not needs to be determined on a individual basis. Also, keep in mind that a perm will make your hair appear much shorter and will give you an even, smaller curl pattern when most people are looking to wear a more loose, natural and tousled curl that you can only achieve with an iron or medium and/or large hot rollers.
