Romance With An Edge

romance with an edge

While it isn’t new to say that Spring is a romantic season, the Spring/Summer 2015 runway shows brought on a flurry of “romance with an edge.”  This upcoming season of hair is all about antiqued pastel highlights with dimension.

The soft touches of color previewed at the Badgley Mischka show were created by fashion and editorial colorist Rachel Bodt of Cutler Salon. Here are a few of Rachel’s tips for creating your own pastel highlights!

Wash & Go…
Quickly add temporary color with Redken Color Rebel Sticks. A great non-committal way to test out colored hair, the sponge sticks can be applied directly to the shaft of the hair and last for one to two washes.
**Insider Tip: Select random pieces around the nape of the neck and ear line. These are the best introduction into the rainbow world without overdoing it.

Dip & Clip…
For a more realistic dusty pastel, purchase clip-in hair extensions and temporary  hair dye. Opt for bleached or very blonde extensions, as they will pick up the color more easily.
**Insider Tip: Mix the color with an equal amount of conditioner to give the extensions a more pastel finish, then add a single drop of black temporary dye to the mixture for a more “lived-in” look. Rinse as directed by the packaging.

If you’ve done the temporary options and would like to go permanent, it’s best to make an appointment with a salon pro, who can make your pastel shades last a bit longer with stronger color formulas.
**Insider Tip: Snap a selfie of your temporary color to show your colorist what you have in mind! ,
