Candy Shaw Codner

Stylist Candy Shaw Codner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers in Atlanta, GA, is a regular contributor to Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide, where her clients, and potential clients, see the gorgeous cut and color work her salon does. Do you want to submit your work for possible publication and help build traffic in your salon? Here’s all the information you need!

All of the salon hair photos you see in Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide come from you, the stylists and the salons. If you have a collection you’d like to submit, or you’re thinking of doing a photo shoot, here are some tips…

  • We want to see what’s happening in your salon, in your city, in your state. The styles you create for your models should be representative of the types of cuts and colors you are normally creating for your clients.
  • Models don’t have to be professional, but they should be cute and have really great hair! Each model will need to sign a model’s release form that gives us permission to publish the photos in Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide. Remember, we’re a national newsstand publication—Sophisticate’s is available everywhere. If you don’t have your own airtight model release form, please e-mail us at info@associatedpub.com. Please put “Releases” in the subject line. We’ll e-mail you a copy of our own release form that you can use.
  • The photography must be really good! Flip through the pages of any Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide and you’ll see that almost every photo has good, clear, clean lighting, very few or no shadows, is in complete focus and that you can see the hair really, really well. We don’t want to miss a detail of that cut or color you worked so hard on! We highly recommend a professional photographer, or someone you know who takes excellent photos with a great camera. Photographer’s release form? We’ll need one of those, too, to give us permission to publish the photos in the magazine. If you don’t have one, e-mail us (see above) and we’ll send you one.
  • Your photos can be in transparency, print or digital form. If you prefer the digital format, please make sure the resolution is at least 300dpi and the photo size is at least 8-1/2 x 11. Please note that we cannot return any materials sent to us.
  • You don’t have to write captions for any of the photos you submit, unless you really want to. You do have to include your name and phone number so we can call you if necessary.
  • Remember that there is a time lapse from when you send in your photos to when the issue we’re working on will be published—it may be two or three issues before you see your work.
  • We regret that due to the amount of images in each issue (over 800!), we cannot send you a copy of any issue your work appears in. But since you already subscribe, all you have to do is keep watch. What? You don’t subscribe? Click that magazine cover up there now!
