Where do the star athletes of Chicago go for their winning manes? They go to 316 Club Barber Spa. One of those superstar athletes includes the Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane, and for those familiar with his lucky playoff mane, he trusts one barber to get it done right—316 Club’s Carmelo Preiti. And Sophisticate’s has the details…
“Sports figures in general are very superstitious,” says 316 Club owner Greg Savarese. “There’s various players of all levels that do things a certain way and don’t change the strategy. In hockey, there’s the playoff beard. Playoffs start, you grow the beard and you don’t cut the beard until you’re eliminated from the playoffs or you win the Stanley Cup.
“Through working with my barber, Carmelo, Patrick Kane came up with [his mullet]. It didn’t go anywhere the first year. Then, the following year, [the Blackhawks] won the Stanley Cup with Patrick scoring the game-winning goal, and ever since…he doesn’t start the playoffs without seeing Carmelo; the playoffs don’t start without Patrick Kane getting his lucky mullet.”
Patrick isn’t the only one stopping by 316 Club to get groomed. Other famous clientele include the Blackhawks’ Brandon Saad and Jonathan Toews and Kerry Wood of the Chicago Cubs. Whether an athlete or 9-to-5 working guy, 316 Club—located in the heart of Chicago’s financial district—is the perfect place to get groomed. Check it out at 175 W. Jackson or call 312-880-0316.
