SOPHISTICATE’S BLOG: 10 TIPS FOR A (safe!) PRO MANICURE

NailSalon_zpsc2302b4e

Manicures, pedicures and artistic nail treatments are super popular, and if you’re ready to join in on the fun with a pro nail treatment, you’ll need to know a few things.  Robert Urfer, founder of Lucas-Cide Salon and Spa Disinfectant, has compiled 10 tips to ensure that you not only get gorgeous tips, you won’t encounter anything yucky while you’re getting them at the nail salon… Safety first!

1. Arrive early.
This allows you to take a few moments to glance around the salon to ensure the overall condition is neat and tidy.

2. Look for the license.
Be sure the salon is fully licensed to conduct business.

3. Check out their sterilization methods.
Make sure the salon is disinfecting their tools between customers.

4. Scan the pedicure area.
The nail technicians should be cleaning and disinfecting each chair and water basin after each use.

5. Make sure they’re washing their hands.
Just as the tools should be disinfected, so should the nail technicians’ hands.

6. Review your nail pro’s station before she starts.
Make sure the nail artist thoroughly cleans the station before starting your treatment.

7. Opt out of cuticle cutting.
While cuticle cutting may seem like the norm, it can allow bacteria to enter your body and cause infections.

8. Ask for your own tools.
If you’re a regular, the salon may store tools specifically used only on you.

9. Try a med spa.
Overseen by a physician, these spas are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized.

10. Report concerns.
Contact your State Board of Cosmetology to report any issues you think need to be fixed.
