Trending: Boxer Braids

Boxer Braids! If you don’t know the style by name, you’ll likely know it by photo–Vanessa Hudgens, Khloe Kardashian and Selena Gomez have all worn them (and Instagrammed them!). Boxer Braids, which are basically double French braids that are braided very tightly and closely to the scalp, look great on any hair length–yes, even short–and can be worn pretty much everywhere.

boxer braids 2Vanessa’s Boxer Braids, shown at right, were styled at 901 Too salon in West Hollywood by stylist Joey Perrotti. Here are his 5 easy steps to get the look…

1. Begin by splitting hair in half down the middle, using a rattail comb to achieve a straight line.

2. Clip one side of the hair out of the way. On the non-clipped side, grab the section of hair at the top of your head and divide into three equal sections.

3. Start braiding your hair, but cross the strands under the middle piece instead of over. Continue until there is no hair left. This is an inverted braid, also known as an “inside out” braid, which allows you to really see the structure.

4. Repeat on the other side.

5. To finish the style, add a little volumizing powder (such as Unite Expanda Dust) and expand the braid just a little to give it a slightly disheveled look.
